About this listen

Can one man’s crowded, messy life fill another man’s empty heart?

Raising a family was always Adam Mills’ dream, although solo parenting and moving back to tiny Garnet Run certainly were not. After a messy breakup, Adam is doing his best to give his young daughter the life she deserves - including accepting help from their new reclusive neighbor to fulfill her Christmas wish.

Though the little house may not have “the most lights ever”, the Mills home begins to brighten as handsome Wes Mobray spends more time there and slowly sheds his protective layers. But when the eye-catching house ends up in the news, Wes has to make a choice: Hide from the darkness of his unusual past, or embrace the light of a future - and a family - with Adam.

Love in the unexpected

I enjoyed this story. It was angsty, fun with some silliness thrown in. It was about seeing life through the eyes of an 8 year old.
It was about finding love in the most unexpected places.
I would definitely recommend.

More please!!

This book is absolutely beautiful and the kind of book I would love to see more of. While I do enjoy hot steamy sex in books. I believe sometimes the sex scene becomes half of the book. This book has an amazing story and is narrated by one of my top favourite!! Michael Dean has never disappointed me as he is excellent and brings a book alive. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

Charming Christmas romance

Wes, Adam, & Gus get to know each other over spiders & Christmas lights. It’s fun & engaging. I thought Adam was a little too quick to think Wes was thoughtful & kind, though he was, I just thought a couple more scenes of Wes learning to interact with humans again would have made the pace a tad more organic. The story held my interest, and the angst is low. Eight year old Gus is the most fully realized of the 3 main characters, and is delightful if slightly felonious.

Possible spoiler: The living situation needed more airtime. The guys just barely get back together by the end, and I kept waiting for tgat conversation. Adam is living in a rental & isn’t flush, so it would make sense for them to move into one house. But Wes’s house has spiders & snakes that are allowed to roam, and Adam extremely doesn’t like being around spiders & snakes. How they could cohabitate is what I expected the main conflict to be but it doesn’t get addressed at all, and needed to be. (-1 star. To be clear, it needs addressing, not to be the main conflict.) There are several options for addressing the house pet issue, including Wes just sleeping over, but for all the problem solving verve all 3 main characters, none of it is applied to this fraught reality. Especially since Wes even says he’s worried about mixing certain other pets in with his existing menagerie.

Steam: Medium. Details make it on page for a few M/M encounters. It’s made clear that sound doesn’t carry & they lock the door.

Narration: I enjoyed it. Particularly, Gus being enthusiastic made me smile. Good sound quality.

Cute

This was a cute Christmas story. Not deep but ok. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if it had a different narrator. I just struggle with Michael Deans narration. I usually don’t get books done by him as he sounds the same overly hyper voice in every book but it’s Roan Parrish, and I love RP

Great story and narration!

This story was so captivating that I finished it in one hot July day! Loved the lense provided by an 8 year old daughter and her dad, recovering from heartache and finding home in the people and place of small town Wyoming. The characters were well written, believable, sexy (adults), honest and humorous. Adored the code of honesty invoked by an excellent parent--the perfect growth device for everyone. Looking forward to my next Roan Parrish listening adventure.

So good!!!

Such a lovely story! Great romance, lovely characters and theme. Iloved the daughter, Gus - she reminded me of the child in Paper Moon (smart, speaks her mind).
Loved the narration, but that's a given since it's Michael Dean.

With A Glow

I love the pull between both of these men and how they each need to work through different things in different ways. I also loved the fact that Gus gets to be as much of a character in the story as both of the men. You get to see Wes’ real struggle. It reminds you that you never know for sure shy people are reacting in a certain way. It was great to see a mm story in main stream series.

I listened to the audio version which was well done.

Sweet and emotional holiday romance

4.5 stars. Adam Mills wants to make Christmas special for his daughter Gus by fulfilling her request for decorating their house with “the most lights ever.” Adam and Gus ask their reclusive neighbor Wes for help and he finds himself involved in their lives and bonds with the daughter over their mutual love of science and unconventional pets.

I’ve loved the Garnet Run series, so I was excited to read a Christmas book set in that world, but this book can absolutely be read as a stand alone. This is a sweet, emotional story about belonging, acceptance, and unconditional love. It’s very focused on family and 8 year old Gus plays a major part in the story. Roan Parrish always does a wonderful job portraying mental health issues and Wes’s issues were sensitively written. I also loved that Adam was unapologetically emotional. I loved this sweet and heartwarming Christmas story!

I’ve listened to this narrator a lot and he’s mostly pretty great but I don’t always like how he dies the voices of women.

A great story to get you into the Holiday Spirit

My first dip into the world of Roan Parrish and this was the perfect book for it. Steamy, Sweet, and an all around Feel Good Read that is sure to get everyone into the holiday spirit.

Gus stole the show every time she was on the page, this adorable eight year old will have you laughing out loud more than you would believe. The frank way she speaks was just perfect. Adam has been raising Gus since she was an infant and he definitely more of a dad than an Uncle to her, their bond was so strong it was touching. Adam would do anything his little girl wants and if she want the most lights ever on their house for Christmas, well that's what she'll have.

Wes is a recluse, he doesn't go outside much at all he prefers to stay indoors and work on his project which could change things radically for those in under funded areas. He enjoys the company of his pets and that's about it, until Adam and Gus move in next door.

I really enjoyed the way things played out with Adam and Wes, and the relationship between Wes and Gus was great! She had him wrapped around her little finger in no time at all.

If you are looking for an MM Romance that will get you into the holiday spirit I highly recommend this book to you. And if you enjoy Audiobooks, Michael Dean did a great job with the narration and really brought this story to life.

Happy Listening!!!
