About this listen

A killer is on the loose, and only one girl has the power to find him. But in this genre-bending YA thriller, she must first manage to avoid becoming a target herself.

For Adele, the dead aren't really dead. She can see them and even talk to them. But she's spent years denying her gift. When she encounters her ex-best friend Tori in a shallow grave in the woods and realizes that Tori is actually dead - that gift turns into a curse. Without an alibi, Adele becomes the prime suspect in Tori's murder. She must work with Tori's ghost to find the real killer. But what if the killer finds Adele first?

In The Lonely Dead, master mystery-writer April Henry adds a chilling paranormal twist to this incredibly suspenseful young adult novel.

The way they had the character plotted out

Solving mystery of how someone is murdered and communicating to the deceased is really how it kept me guessing on who was the murderer.

Good story line

I found the Story interesting. I found the main character fascinating. I frankly wish it was longer.

Paranormal Who Done It

Enjoyed the story and the narration was well done. I thought I had the mystery figured out, but wasn’t certain until the last few chapters. Overall easy to listen to. Would definitely be interested in a second book - or even a series with the main characters.

Great

I love how much of a mystery this is. I don’t like how long the the chapters are but that’s okay because the story is great.

surprisingly interesting

The name of the killer was surprising... I thought it was someone else, I was also starting to think about who was having blackouts...

May not be good for those with schizophrenia

Loved the story! As someone who feels spirits of those that have passed on, I especially loved it. Spoiler alert: She is diagnosed with Schizophrenia. When she stops taking her meds, she is able to start seeing the dead again. In her case, she was misdiagnosed. The book could perpetuate the sometimes harmful feeling that all schizophrenic delusions are true. It makes for a really great story (I just stayed up the entire night to finish it, loved it). However, I think it's good to point out that it may not be a good fit for those really diagnosed, nor their loved ones. It may feed into the delusion behavior and conspiracy.

I am loving these books. It is so hard to find clean mysteries that don't take the gore and abuse too far. I would be absolutely fine with my preteen reading these books.
