Good Read

The Lookout was a good read by Jack Hunt. Kelly Danvers escapes a near-death experience. She is a famed writer that takes a retreat to a remote oof the grid lookout in northern Idaho running from her past. She is hoping to take this time to finish her novel. A bad freak snowstorm brings in a lost forest ranger, shivering with some outlandish claims. Unfortunately trouble quickly follows and she finds herself fighting for survival. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

Great Thriller

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I'm always sceptical of thrillers because I really want to be on the edge of my seat during the tense moments, but this book did not leave me unimpressed. Hunt even threw in a genuinely shocking twist at the end. I really enjoyed every minute.

The narration was fine. It didn't add or take away from the story, but varying the male voices would have made it easier to differentiate between characters. Also, female voices can be difficult for male narrators - I get it. Still not a big deal.

A Wintertime Survival Thriller

Kelly, an author and recent domestic violence survivor, decides to retreat to the fire lookout she owns to gain inspiration for a new novel. While there a snow storm begins. A park ranger arrives soon after, bearing the news of an EMP attack. The setting of the national forests of Idaho are the backdrop for Jack Hunt's thrilling survival novel 'The Lookout'.

This story is short in length but long in nail-biting suspense. One thing Jack Hunt does well is write tension and action scenes to keep readers on the edge of their seats. He also writes the story in such a way as to keep the reader guessing until the very end. He leaves foreshadowing clues for the reader to form ideas of the the climactic reveal, but still delivering surprises. It is a well-done survival thriller.

Miles Meili is one of the best narrators of today. His interpretation of Jack Hunt's words is perfection. I really like the style and cadence in his voice.

Just ok

Good it’s short cause it wasn’t as great as I expected. Woman coming out of an abusive relationship runs to a secluded mountain home. One the free abuser is aware of. Kinda stupid thing to do, but the plot drags out with people coming to see her in seclusion getting murdered by man holding her there. Question is....who is this guy, and why is he there.

Solid thriller

Jack hunt threw me for a loop this time. I've read and listened to quite a bit of his work and have come to expect his genre to fall in the post apocalyptic survival realm, so color me surprised when I started and figured it was a different type of survival book, though he still managed to throw in a number of curves that had me questioning where the story was going. It's a fairly solid thriller, though some of the motivations of the characters seems a bit vague. I'm quite the fan of Miles Meili and he does a great job with the narration. That being said, I do think the story, given the content and the lead character, it might have been more fitting for a female narrator.

Beware: deals with domestic abuse

I was a bit taken aback by this book. It was written and narrated by men, but the story plays out from the perspective of a battered woman. The plot works, but the gender juxtaposition is jarring. And, the voice of the characters ring false at times. This is a very dark book, especially for women. If you’re not into horror and scary or gruesome scenes beware. It’s not the violence as much as the mental gymnastics of the main character that just don’t quite fit. In any case, interesting twists, solid action. Great for action fans

A Thriller

When the book first started I thought it was another Hunt EMP book (which I love) and was surprised it was as survival story. Kelly an n author who goes to her place in in the mountains after her ex-husband almost kills her then all the action and horror starts. Both Travis and Cole are deranged psychopaths, just listen to what happens I absolutely enjoyed it.This book was given to me by author and I provided this voluntary review. THANK YOU !

I liked it but.....

There were some issues. The story is good but doesn’t work without the MC making seriously idiotic choices over and over. The narration is good but being that the MC is female, I would’ve preferred a female narrator. I found all the female voices very distracting. All that said, I finished the book in one sitting because I wanted to know what happened next. There were a few twists I didn’t see coming. So I guess, overall, good book. I received a review copy at my request and voluntarily reviewed.
