The brand new series from Zoe Sugg and Amy McCulloch

Illumen Hall is an elite boarding school. Tragedy strikes when the body of a student is discovered at their exclusive summer party - on her back is an elaborate tattoo of a magpie.

When new girl Audrey arrives the following term, running from her own secrets back home in America, she is thrown into solving the case. Despite her best efforts to avoid any drama, her new roommate Ivy was close to the murdered girl, and the two of them can't help but get pulled in.

The two can't stand each other, but as they are drawn deeper into the mystery of this strange and terrible murder, they will discover that something dangerous is at the heart of their superficially perfect school.

Welcome to The Magpie Society.

One for Sorrow will be told via the alternating first person perspectives of the lead characters Audrey - written by Amy - and Ivy - written by Zoe - with the narrative being jointly plotted by both authors.

Honestly, I couldn’t stop listening! Listened in 2 days time. I want to know more. Suspenseful and easy to listen to.

Captivating

The story was amazing and the narration and voices were really great. I loved the accents. The only thing that kept the performance from getting full stars is that on certain narrators the volume would be MUCH louder and it would blast my eardrums. Incredibly unpleasant and jarring. It would go from normal volume to SHOUTING when there was no shouting in the scene. I’m not sure if it was an editing issue or a technical issue, but sometimes it was just too much to get through and I’d have to stop it and come back later.

Consistent volume unless needed for dramatic effect would be much appreciated for the next book.

Great YA read

I had never read Zoe’s books before because they seemed to be more for kids. But when I heard she was coming out with a different type of book with a friend, Amy, I was intrigued. Let me tell you if you chose to just read this book instead of listen YOU ARE MISSING OUT. The production of this audiobook is amazing. Especially when they introduce the podcast. Chills ran down my spine!!! Can’t wait for the next one.

SPOILER ALERT KINDA. Read ahead if you dare.

The only thing I really wish was different in terms of storyline was I wish we hadn’t found out about who was producing the podcast until the end or even not at all. The secret podcast was so gossip girl and really my favorite part of the book until we found out who it was. I also found the book was going too fast at times and I wish they had taken their time doing things. But that just might be me! I love listening to 16hr books!

I AM SHOCKED. You have to listen!

Dark, Gothic, suspenseful, and you just won't want to put it down. The voices were distracting from time to time due to the accents blending when Ivy would speak during an Audrey chapter and vice versa. However the story is one that will leave you longing for the next book. Two For Joy can't come soon enough!

Captivating!

I originally bought this book just to support Zoe but am I glad I did! It was captivating throughout. There was a part that seemed like a lecture on behavior rather than just the characters genuinely talking but it was a good lesson to learn nevertheless. There were many twist and turns and the book will definitely keep you on your toes!

Really good book!

amazing

Just as we begin to start moving along with the characters and story, book one ends— and when you think about it, what really is the point? Feels a deceptive, money grabbing tactic towards onsumers.

Experience feels hollow.

I'm so sad this is over! Such an amazing book! Excited for the sequel!
