About this listen

There’s a stalker on the loose at the mall - and there’s no safe place to hide.

Working at the mall is supposed to be fun. Trish’s job at Muffin-Mania is hardly intellectually challenging and her boss is a piece of work, but it’s worth it to have a job in the same building as her two best friends, the Hanson twins. And the hot guys who hang out there are an added bonus. But something isn’t right about this mall.

It’s the oldest mall in the state, remodeled over a dozen times without rhyme or reason, and there are many strange nooks and secret passages behind the bright gleaming storefronts. Someone has been stealing housewares, furniture, and food, and now a mysterious man with ash-gray hair and a whisper-soft voice has started harassing Trish on the phone. He knows her secrets, and he has dark plans for her.

Editorial reviews

Trish works at a muffin shop at the mall, and things are going great: her best friends work in the same building and the hot guy at the pizza counter can't seem to take his eyes off her. But soon, a creepy customer keeps showing up to harass her, and Trish discovers a dead body in the dumpster. Terrible things are happening at the mall, and it looks like Trish is the next victim. The recipient of multiple Earphone Awards, narrator Tara Sands superbly brings out the mystery and menace of this thriller, creating a feeling of horror and suspense with her intelligent grasp of character and pacing.

fun read. great narrator

I read this book as a kid and loved it, so I purchased the audio book for something to listen to while at work.

it's still pretty darn good and the narrator was good too.

Nostalgic 90s Teen Horror

Overall, I found this story to be engaging and well paced. I kept going back and forth over who/what the killer was and I liked that there was a slight blurring between horror and sci-fi. Many parts had me really creeped out! And it delivers all the classic 90s teen horror nostalgia (corny romances, 90s fashion descriptions, set at a mall, etc.). It was a cozy, creepy listen!

A good introduction to the Point Horror series

I wanted to read a Point Horror book in preparation for the spooky season. I am well aware that I am older than the target audience for this book, so my rating might be somewhat unfair.
The Mall is a decent, fairly fast-paced entry in the Point Horror series. It is predictable but engaging enough to hold my interest. The problem is that it is too fantastical to be a grounded story about stalking, but it is not supernatural or fantastical enough to be something more interesting. We get hints of a much more fantastical story, but those elements are just red herrings.
Nevertheless, it was fun enough to finish, and I would be willing to check out the author's other Point Horror entries.
