About this listen

A brand new, funny and quirky story based on E.A. Wyke-Smith's classic, the inspiration for J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. A lost classic - updated in a more contemporary voice. A delightful tale of orphans tricked by an evil witch and rescued by the warm-hearted Snergs.

At the Sunny Bay Home for Superfluous and Accidentally Parentless Children, Pip and Flora are in trouble. Running away with their dog they discover the Marvellous Land of Snergs, a magical world of cinnamon bears and scrumptious feasts - but also one of vegan ogres, disgraced jesters and dastardly Kelps, with a villain dressed entirely in purple....

Soon their only friend is forgetful but lovable snerg, Gorbo. He will lead them home - if they can decide where home really is and if Gorbo can remember how to get there.

Wholesome and Whimsical

I loved this book! Admittedly, I caught some blatant thievery from Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter, but I didn't care. it's was a wholesome, cute, and enchanting story

Stephen Fry, Saint of Mankind

This is a delightful story and it is narrated by the gifted, exceptionally talented and handsome Saint Fry;Patron Saint of Mankind, Devourer of Ill-Will, Harbinger of Joy, Laughter and Compassion.

I enjoyed the light-hearted, pleasant story very much and highly recommend it to others if they’re in the mood for such a tale.

woderful

The whole family loved this one! mischievious orphans, goofy fantastical animals, loveable Snergs, and a terrible witch kept the story cavorting right along for the kids, and wonderfully clever language kept the adults chuckling. Stephen Fry read this story award-winningly, the total package was truly charming.

a delightful romp through fantasy

I loved it. Reminiscent of Phantom Tollbooth meets whimsy. Stephen Fry is a genius reader.

Stephen Fry the Magic Narrator

Rewriting a classic can easily turn out to be a disaster. But this modern version is a near-perfection, I can’t find harsh words for it. Stephen Fry’s wonderful, first-rate narration makes it even better. I think NO narrator could have done it more beautifully. The notion alone is unbearable. Magic is the word I can justifiably use to describe his narration.
