About this listen

In this moving story about losing and finding love again, a woman sets out to find the perfect matches for those closest to her.

Forty-eight-year-old Nantucketer Dabney Kimball Beech has always had a gift for matchmaking. Some call her ability mystical, while others, her husband, celebrated economist John Boxmiller Beech, and her daughter, Agnes, who is clearly engaged to the wrong man, call it meddlesome. But there's no arguing with her results: With 42 happy couples to her credit and all of them still together, Dabney has never been wrong about romance.

Never, that is, except in the case of herself and Clendenin Hughes, the green-eyed boy who took her heart with him long ago when he left the island to pursue his dream of becoming a journalist. Now, after spending 27 years on the other side of the world, Clen is back on Nantucket, and Dabney has never felt so confused, or so alive.

But when tragedy threatens her own second chance, Dabney must face the choices she's made and share painful secrets with her family. Determined to make use of her gift before it's too late, she sets out to find perfect matches for those she loves most.

beautiful character development.

A sad story ultimately but a beautiful character development and a thoughtful love story. A great listen.

Surprising and intense

This was a "romance novel," I guess, but it had so many aspects of human life and relationships that it pulled me in.

Tearjerker

It started out a little slow but I found that the story draws you in and then impossible to put down. Spoiler alert you do need tissues.

Wonderful!

This is one of mr favorite Elin Hilderbrand’s. The characters are all so rich and textured. You feel as though you are there with them. The narrator did a great job.

Mediocre unless you like this kind of book

If you like a basic romance with a predictable ending this is the book for you. Narration was fine.

Love Elin

This was not one of my favorites of hers. It was hard to get into and a little repetitive at times. But over all I love her books!!

Interesting

The reason I get this four stars instead of five may sound silly, but it’s because of names. The top three people in the story Dabney, Box,and is the third one Clind? This name is very weird. Never did get this straight.
Every time I heard one of these names I had to stop and think, who is this person for sure in the story? Just plain old names are much better, so much easier to grasp when reading a story!
The narrator did an excellent job.
It was a very good and interesting story, thank you!

Tear jerker

Another great book by Elin. I l think I favor this one more than some of her others but keep tissues close by towards the end. You won’t regret it.

Too bad I couldn’t have started on chapter 17 or so 🤷🏻‍♀️

This was an ok read. It started slow and would lag often throughout! It’s what you expect from this author as far as writing style and progression of characters. It just didn’t ever make it to the best part.

Just OK

The story line was good, but the prose was mediocre. I wouldn’t recommend it if you like literary works or even just fine writing. Reminded me of romance novels I read as a teen.
