About this listen

The ties between women can run as deep as the ocean-but so can the secrets.

For 20 years, Kayla, Antoinette and Val have performed their own special summer ritual. Once a year, the old friends put aside their daily, separate lives to drink champagne, swap stories and swim naked under the Nantucket stars. But on one of those bonding nights, one of their trio swims out from the shore and doesn't return. After the surviving friends emerge from their grief, they realize that the repercussions of their loss go far beyond their little circle, and they begin to uncover layers of secrets—and their connections to each other—that were never revealed on the beach. What has made their friendship strong now has the power to destroy—their marriages, families, even themselves, in Elin Hilderbrand's Nantucket Nights.

“What a perfect summer pleasure Elin Hilderbrand provides in Nantucket Nights, mixing the complexities of family life and friendship with suspense, romance, and moonlit Nantucket nights.” —Nancy Thayer, author of Custody

“Ms. Hilderbrand paints a picture of idyllic Nantucket life that slowly starts to unravel as the ugly underbelly is revealed. Hidden secrets, a mysterious disappearance, and the pain of betrayal form the basis for this haunting read.” —Romantic Times

A Strange Twist

The narration was a bit odd. I felt the accents were directed by the author not the narrator. I’ve listened to many books by the same narrator and she is good. I’m glad I finished it because I felt resolution to the stress. I guess it made me relate to life to be patient and let things resolve in their own without manipulation.

True life delimas

I liked the fact that the story was about imperfect, selfish and at times down right mean people, this was not a pretty fairy tail tied up with a bow, and if you are human and live on planet earth you should be able to relate, it touched a lot of emotions, mad, sad, outraged and disgusted, but haven't we all felt that way about people in our lives or on behalf of someone going through drama. What I didn't care for is the narrator's voice adaption for Antoinette, she made her sound like Isaac Hayes

Dysfunctional relationships galore

I’m revisiting Elin Hilderbrand’s books on audio. The female narrators who read her books are top notch, able to do multiple different voices in both genders and of different ages so dialogue sounds different. The narration elevates my enjoyment of the stories and allows me to overlook things that might bug me reading printed word.

Hilderbrand and I have different ideas of “good relationships” from friendships, to family to romance. Her healthiest relationships are parent/child. I didn’t understand the friendships in NANTUCKET NIGHTS. The friends didn’t seem to like each other much. Antonia was so closed off and gave nothing to the others. Val and Kayla seemed more compatible, but as the saying goes, with friends like Val, who needs enemies. I think we were supposed to like Kayla’s husband, but he was such a misogynist, ordered her around and she just followed.

I’m not sure why I enjoyed this book so much, but I did.
