About this listen

These delightful stories of the famous hawk-eyed detective are told by his friend and foil, Dr. Watson. Doyle draws us into 19th-century London - - hansom cabs, train rides, and foggy nights - - where he astutely solves the most complex and perplexing cases of the day. Among the short stories included in this collection is "The Gloria Scott", an account of Holmes's very first case.Public Domain (P)2009 Blackstone Audio, Inc. Excellent narrator. Perfect for Dr. Watson

The narrator sounded just as I would imagine and older Dr. Watson to be. Great stories and well worth the $

Bert Cobb

How can you go wrong with Holmes and Watson? This is a faithful deposition of the best of Conan Doyle’s best and I never grow tired of hearing from the corpus of his work. Who has not dreamt of being able to think like Sherlock? He has inspired me to see my world and to learn how to think as fun. A good book for nostalgia and dreams of better times.

not Derek jacobi

all in all not a bad narrator, but i feel he lacks intonation and doesn't seem to defirenciate between characters. i started with the stories of Sherlock Holmes as free downloads as read by Derek jacobi, and i enjoy those far more then I did this one. but being a purist, and a stickler for continuation, i listened to this recording none the less and even though I enjoyed the stories as they are, I'm glad they are over and i can get back to the ones read by Mr jacobi

Marred by the narrator

Unabridged original short stories. Unfortunately the narrator is LACONIC and doesn’t bother with distinctive voices for the dialogue. This isn’t the contrived bumbling of Nigel Bruce in the 1940s radio plays but just weak effort I suppose. Otherwise it’s classic Doyle. Playing at 1.4 x speed helps clip the speech.

The narrator is AWFUL!!! I can’t listen to my fav stories here.

The narrator is choppy and monotone. He’s horrible!! I had to delete this book he’s so terrible. Sad, because I LOVE Sherlock Holmes!!
