About this listen

‘A gorgeous story full of emotion and a very special library.’ – Evie Woods, bestselling author of The Lost Bookshop

Some stories stay with us forever…

For forty-two years, Sally Harrison has been building a library.

Each year, on her daughter’s birthday, she adds a new book to her shelves – with a note in the front dedicated to her own greatest work.

But Ella – Sally’s only child – fled to Australia twenty-one years ago after a heated exchange, and never looked back. And though Sally still dutifully adds a new paperback to the shelves every time the clock strikes midnight on July 11th, her hopes of her daughter ever thumbing through the pages are starting to dwindle.

Then disaster strikes and Ella is forced to return to the home she once knew.

She is soon to discover that when one chapter ends, another will soon follow.

All you have to do is turn the page…

Journey through the pages of this heartwarming novel, where hope, friendship and second chances are written in the margins. Perfect for book lovers everywhere and fans of Sally Page’s The Keeper of Stories.

The life's lessons shared by the author hit home. She has inspired me to begin a library for my nearly seven-year-old granddaughter. Storey so eloquently puts into words the thoughts and feelings I so inadequately attempt to put at the forefront in this life. Through her words, I am encouraged to look beyond the immediate difficulties and minute details of our lives, to the bigger picture and a more conscious recognition of what is truly important in this life of ours. Thank you "Sally and Ella" for the gentle reminder.

I love the way the daughter and community came together to help a friend .Not the typical avoidance of people with the disease.

This couldn’t hit closer to home regarding mothers and daughters. I think every mother and daughter should read this book. Life is short, and you can’t get back time!
Highly recommend!
I’ve preordered a hard copy for my library!

I love a book about the love of books and the way we connect with others. This story is also a great reminder to show appreciation for the people in your life and to seek to better understand before you jump to conclusions. Sweet story

The pieces might be a bit predictable, but the story was a nice reminder of how precious our time together is.

The daughter made me mad at first but she grows on you as she grows and learns. I love all the characters in the book but especially Sally the Mom. It is a great book. So glad someone recommended it to me.

I just finished reading THE MEMORY LIBRARY, by Kate Storey. This story hits close to home. It is full of life lessons, relationships between mothers and daughters, and a love of books. As I read this book, I thought about my life and the thousands of books I have read and shared during my lifetime. I spent most of my life in libraries and bookstores. I took the "Best book at the best time" seriously and tried to suggest books that I thought the intended reader would enjoy and many benefit from the reading the stories. Most of those of us who love books have favorites. Have you ever stopped and thought about why a certain book is a favorite? This book is definitely worth reading and its impact will last a long time.
PS--If my mom was still here with us, I would give her this book to read so we could talk about the story and our relationships. I would probably be surprised by some of our revelations to each other.

WOW! Just WOW!

Well written!
The message behind the novel is very realistic and important, forgiveness is hard but it takes a massive weight off your heart and opens up so many doors. Definitely worth another listen!
