About this listen

Since the beginning of the 20th century, cancer rates have increased exponentially - now affecting almost 50 percent of the American population. Conventional treatment continues to rely on chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation to attack cancer cells. Yet research has repeatedly shown that 95 percent of cancer cases are directly linked to diet and lifestyle. The Metabolic Approach to Cancer is the audiobook we have been waiting for - it offers an innovative, metabolic-focused nutrition protocol that actually works.

Naturopathic integrative oncologist and cancer survivor Dr. Nasha Winters and nutrition therapist Jess Higgins Kelley have identified the 10 key elements of a person’s “terrain” (think of it as a topographical map of our body) that are crucial to preventing and managing cancer. Each of the terrain 10 elements - including epigenetics, the microbiome, the immune system, toxin exposures, and blood-sugar balance - is illuminated as it relates to the cancer process, then given a heavily researched and tested, nontoxic and metabolic, focused nutrition prescription.

The metabolic theory of cancer - that cancer is fueled by high-carbohydrate diets, not “bad” genetics - was introduced by Nobel Prize-laureate and scientist Otto Warburg in 1931. It has been largely disregarded by conventional oncology ever since. But this theory is resurging as a result of research showing incredible clinical outcomes when cancer cells are deprived of their primary fuel source (glucose).

"Finding your hope in defeating the Cancer within

I thoroughly enjoyed the information contained within this book. Although there will be, on many occasions ,(as I read), moments of frustration and other emotions because of the new insights that will cause them. Above all else I sensed a renewed hope coupled with a "proven battle plan ", for fighting cancer both now and in the future for yourself as well as a loved one, or someone you might know.
The narrator was excellent too.

A Must Read for anyone interested in health

This book is part of the paradigm shift into a sensible and common sense approach to health and healing.

I have been very actively researching this topic for (as I write this) 11 years. This book is by far the most inteegrative and holistic work I have seen to date.

Previously, I was overwhelmed much of the time, which of course, added to my stress, which of course had a negative impact on my healing. There is no shortage of information, but most if not all of what I had seen to date had been missing big pieces of the conceptual puzzle to such an extent as to create more overwhelm and uncertainty for me.

I don't believe this book covers every single thing that could be done, which the author actually says herself in the book.

However, what is covered is more than enough to give some structure and guidance to anyones efforts, and importantly, the prioritization process is covered in the book.

Life changing, and life saving stuff for those who are willing to take responsibility for and charge of their own health.

The only challenge I am having with it is that the audiobook mentions "sidebars" and a "supplemental pdf" that I have not yet found a way to get, unless I buy the physical book as well.

Excellent

Science backed approaches for cancer that Oncologists need to learn! I was actually mad at the lack of knowledge of my mother’s Oncologists. They had no dietary or nonchemo recommendations for her and recommended Hospice. She followed principles in this book and is almost two years past the Hospice date. Does it take work to follow? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely.

One of the most important books of our time!

It is truly mind blowing how much useful and relevant information the authors have been able to so eloquently and user friendly pack into this book. I have a very short list of books I feel will save lives, and I put this at the top.

Highly Informative

I found this book to be highly informative, supplying new information to myself, and I think most people would find the same. This is an incredible option for individuals with cancer diagnoses, but also enriched with a robust perspective on how to prevent creating environment for cancer growth. I think the contents of this book should be known by everybody on the planet.
