About this listen

Two strangers share a romantic night together only to discover months later they're professional rivals in this grumpy meets sunshine romance novella from the acclaimed author of How to Fail at Flirting.

Gia loves her job as a professor, even when it means dealing with an elusive rival academic who’s made it his mission to criticize her work. When she meets him for the first time, she’s shocked to learn they’ve met before. Months earlier, they shared a perfect New Year’s Eve together in an airport during a weather delay.

After months of working together, Felix still can’t believe the person whose research he's been challenging is the same captivating woman he kissed that night. The two couldn’t be more different. Gia is bubbly, friendly, and extroverted and drives ordered, serious Felix nuts.

Now the two have been assigned to embark on a five-school tour for work. Gia and Felix can’t imagine a travel partner they’d enjoy less until they feel the sparks fly over their shared armrests, security mishaps, and a shared hotel room. They'll need to decide if they can manage their professional tension, or risk missing the connection of a lifetime.

This story was a complete pleasure it was quick and an easy listen! Denise writes the perfect balance of sexy and romance without it being the entire focus! You really hear the characters evolve over the short amount of time!

Perfect bite sized story

This is my first title for Denise Williams and what a delight this book was! She had the perfect mix of snarky, sassy, and saucy in this romcom and I just loved it. The character development and dialogue were strong, and I found myself finishing the audio in one take. I will read more of her catalog for sure.

Zenzi Williams is a new-to-me narrator and her portrayal of Gia was excellent. Her tone and cadence were right on the mark for the character’s personality and I will definitely be listening to more of her work.

I’ve been a fan of Jakobi Diem for a long time and each time I hear him, I am surprised at just how malleable his voice is. He is a master at embodying characters, and he was Felix up and down.

Highly recommend!

A lot of this story made me laugh. Not much in the way of romance which I’m used to when Jakobi’s sexy voice is involved. Narrators did a great job with characters.

This is such good storytelling. She forces you to use your imagination while also allowing you to really get to know the characters.

She writes “the forbidden” so well.

Liked
- Story, overall
- The plot referenced bi-sexuality without it being ‘a thing.’
- The storyline required that the protagonists accept each other as they are
- It was a short story
- Sex was present, but the tension was sensational, palpable
- Flash mob HEA

Didn't Like
-The jump the male lead made to ‘love’ ... Staccato

Recommend?
- Yes!

Who should read?
- Lovers of great romantic stories about smart (black) people.
