About this listen

USA Today Bestseller

"I'm a forever fan."—Tarah DeWitt, USA Today Bestselling Author of Savor It

A lottery ticket + donuts = love in this steamy new fake dating romance from beloved author Denise Williams.

Sybil Sweet has always been lucky, but lately she can’t catch a break. After years of bouncing from job to job in search of something that feels right and from man to man in search of something special, Sybil is worried that she’s the directionless, floundering daughter her family thinks she is. All she really wants now is a little financial stability and carb comfort. Lucky for her, she’s got just enough in the bank to buy a lottery ticket, and the late-night donut store is open.

Kieran Anderson put his dreams of becoming a doctor on hold to take over running his family’s bakery, and after fighting a losing battle to save the place, he’s exhausted, broke, and no closer to getting back to school. But when a whirlwind of a woman sweeps in late one night, flirty energy gives way to more…until she runs out the next morning, leaving behind her winning lottery ticket.

Lucky for Kieran, his attempt to return the ticket looks like a grand romantic gesture and goes viral, sending sales through the roof. In an effort to keep the store afloat and to convince Sybil’s family she can make good relationship choices, they agree to fake a relationship for three months. Even with hundreds of millions of dollars, finding each other might end up being the sweetest bit of luck for both of them.

This was cute

As someone who cares so much, and decisions backfire on me, this one hit home and just made me feel seen. The pressure from family as well.

Aye pobresita Sybil.

I just felt so bad for her. It was like no matter what she did and how great her intentions were everything was just always messed up and her family constantly came at her sideways and once it got to be too much eventually, her sister would intervene. I just feel for characters like that because it’s just extremely heartbreaking. I really enjoyed the story. I thought it was very cute and it took a bit of a lighter tone than the other books by Denise Williams. Kieran was such an amazing character, and I felt bad for him too because he just carried the weight of the world on his shoulders and he just wanted to fix everything and make everything perfect but at the same time he was denying himself happiness. I listened to this via audiobook, and the narration was absolutely top-tier on both parts. Definitely a cute story and a cute read and I would highly recommend it for someone that wants something feel good with just a touch of spice.

Contemporary Romance Narration Done Right

Great contemporary romance for fans of "opposites attract" love stories. A sunshine heroine with ADHD (portrayed with astonishing accuracy without making her a joke or easy comic relief). A super serious, responsible hero, but not so upright he couldn't bring the sexy. Yay! Both narrators are superb and make you truly love Sybil and Kieran.

COULD NOT STOP LISTENING!!!

I loved this book I did not want to stop listening! All the characters were super relatable. I hope there is some sort of sequel on how the remainder of the other friends and family member are because they all had a very good story that you could grow on

Nope.

I usually enjoy this author but man, this one is about as entertaining as watching paint dry. The ‘plot’ moves at a snail’s pace. The FMC is supposed to be endearingly chaotic but she comes across as a bum. Way too much throwaway dialogue. Skip this one.

CONTAINS SPOILERS - I’m Struggling With This One

I’m not done yet, I don’t normally do reviews before I’m done, but I am really, really, really struggling with the female character. This is the 1st of Denise Williams books that I have felt this way about and I’m bummed because it is so hard to find women of color (WOC) romance authors that I like reading, and so few of them in general. I just find the female character completely unlikeable. I have known plenty of people who have messed up a lot of of their lives, myself included, but never someone who does not seem to register at all when they are being a complete jerk by being inconsiderate of people’s time and feelings. At what point do you understand that the problem is you?

The way parents can down their children. I love the plot and the narration.

The reading at the end, I still love the story, but the format of the story was read didn't set well with me. But it didn't ruin the whole story.
