About this listen

Bequeathed a rare diamond by her late uncle, heiress Rachel Verinder has no idea it was stolen from an Indian temple or that it has a cursed history. When the diamond disappears on her eighteenth birthday, multiple suspects - including Rachel’s suitor, Franklin Blake - are implicated in its theft. Determined to prove his innocence, Franklin begins his own investigation. Did one of his fellow Englishmen steal the jewel? Or was it whisked back to India? The case, which unfolds through multiple narratives, takes startling twists and turns in pursuit of the truth.

Widely considered the first great detective novel written in English, The Moonstone is one of Wilkie Collins’s most famous works.

Exquisite listen

This is my second book by Wilkie Collins what a wonderful book the other book that I have listened to was the Women in White.
Both of the books I could not stop listening to I found myself listening to the book instead of doing things that I was supposed to be doing. Memorable books
each book had its twists and turns.
Also five stars to the narrator he was fabulous
Do not pass these books by you will not regret it
I am sure at one point in time I will listen to them again. The command of the English language was impeccable.

The Moonstone

I found this book to be interesting and enjoyable. The story was quite mysterious and kept me guessing as to who the criminals were.

short story without an end

At the 16 hour mark I am screaming at the author. "When will it end?" The basic mystery is rather simple but the presentation drags it out into an endless torture designed to trap readers.

For the first 4 hours I enjoyed it, but now I say "Save yourself! Read the abridged version."

Matthew Lloyd Davies narration a joy and delight!

I am so much enjoying this book, an absolute joy and surprise! I am a Prime Amazon subscriber, and the AmazonClassics Editions are free for Prime members to "check out" in June 2020. So, for fun this month, I have been borrowing these classics randomly. I had never heard of this book before this week. I am really enjoying the novel, but am especially enjoying the narration by Matthew Lloyd Davies. What a delight and treat!

Perfect voice to match a perfect narrative

As a literature teacher, I tackled the Moonstone one year with my class. Having a room full of students to read from the text made the story come alive, and of course, Wilkie Collins provided rich opportunity with the Gallery of Characters that he weaves through the book. I can honestly say it is a delight that in the singularity of one Matthew Davies all of the players in the book have form and life and meaning. Davies masterfully transitions from one to the other to the delight of the listener who through the sheer magic of his voice places immediate images of the person in our minds. As Victorian classics go, this book (AND THIS VERSION) are a must.

As good as they get

I am amazed at how well this story as stood the test of time. It deserves being called “classic.” The narration was superb. I suggest that you listen to this audio book even though you have previously read read it. The narrator makes the older form of the language totally clear to the modern ear. It is a good mystery, and funny, too. It was easy to choose all round 5-stars.

The narrator is amazing!

Great story. The narrator really brought the characters to life. I can't say enough about what a great job he did. This is my second time listening, and I love it even more.
