About this listen

Popular and acclaimed novelist Caroline Clemmons tugs at the heartstrings with this sensuous historical romance set in the late 19th century. Handsome Texan Drake Kincaid faces a dilemma. He must marry before his rapidly approaching 30th birthday, or he will lose his ranch to his scheming uncle. Steamed, he vows to marry the least suitable woman he can find. Little does he know the woman he picks might just be his perfect bride.

Pearl Parker is a young woman trying hard to keep her half brother & sister safe and secure. She makes bread & pies to sell in town to support them, and she is also a healer. Drake Kincaid is a wealthy young rancher from Texas, on a trip to Tennessee to buy horses.
When he enters town he sees Pearl being assaulted by three men and goes to her defense, he can't abide a man misusing a woman. Pearl has disguised herself so she wouldn't attract unwanted attention from men, so Drake sees a drab and dirty woman. By a clause in his parents will, Drake has to marry before his 30th birthday [which will be in another week] or he will lose his ranch, so has decided to marry the most unsuitable wife he could find, he decided Pearl is the one.The story involves attempted murder, kidnapping, arson and inept assailants. The story is humerus and entertaining.

I love books with a good story line, but this one is very predictable and I had serious problems staying awake.

I found this book predictable and not particularly enjoyable. The characters lacked dimension and plot development was weak. To make matters worse the narration was amateur to the point of being painful at times. I managed to listen to the end in hopes it would get better. Unfortunately it didn't.

Tedious
