Critic reviews

"Not only did Bram Stoker write the greatest vampire novel of all time, he also created one of the best (if not the best) horror novels dealing with Ancient Egypt and the mummy's resurrection." (Horror 100 Best Books)

These performances bring this little known classic to life. Memorable voices, indelible characters, spot-on soundtrack.

A Perfect Fall Read

This is a dramatized production, based on Bram Stoker's novel, "The Jewel of Seven Stars," and I'm happy to say it's a reasonably good one.

It is abridged, but don't let that stop you - the only thing that it seems to excise is Stoker's florid writing. While I really enjoyed the actual novel, trimming out Stoker's enthusiastic descriptions manages to turn a 9 hour audiobook into a 2.5 hour listen, and it still includes almost every relevant detail from the source material.

The performances are decent, although I did notice a tendency for the actors to occasionally stop reading momentarily at the end of a line, but not a sentence... As if they had to turn a page to see the rest of their dialogue. It's a minor thing, but it was a bit annoying.

I should note, if you haven't read the book, there are famously (infamously?) two different endings: the original 1903 ending, and a revised 1912 ending. This includes the original, darker ending, which I very much prefer.

A pretty good distillation of the novel

A delightful dramatized edition of the classic tale the Mummy. Note that this differs from many film and television adaptations, since the Mummy is female. Cast is wonderful.
