About this listen

The crow hissed: "Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t cut your throat here and now. One single damn reason."

The prince froze with fear and said nothing. At last, his behavior was logical. His facial features had lost any order. Shivering, he closed his eyes in expectation of certain death.

But then there was a whispering. "Could there be three reasons maybe?" She suppressed the reflex to laugh—she hadn’t laughed aloud for years and was not sure if the muscles needed were even still functioning. Despite herself, she responded: "One good reason is sufficient, but alright, you have exactly three attempts."

Let’s see if the smartarse has anything else up his sleeve.

In the heart of the medieval world, Prince Karek crosses paths with a professional murderess—an encounter that could alter the kingdom for all time. Yet her contract specifies assassinating none other than Prince Karek himself.

I had listened to Feuerbach's "Grave Digger's Son and the Waif Girl" and really loved it and the narrator Gildart Jackson did a fantastic job on those books. In this series Daniel Wisniewski is a familiar voice from video games and he also does a fantastic job here.

I truly loved these books, starting with the "Murderess Crow". I have actually listened to 3 now and am looking forward to the fourth. I don't know where they end but I am looking forward to more for long time (this from someone that has read all the "Wheel of Times" and some twice).

There's this familiar theme of the bully in school in this one that seems a little trite. But I love the character of the crow which to me does not seem trite at all.

In this world the magic is rare - most people don't believe in it. Lots of fighting and adventuring. Later on there's ships. It seems like there are always ships.

I am surprised that there are so few reviews on a book that I really loved.

Binge-listened to them all

Book... another excellent book from this author. Narrator... fantastic actor that keeps you on the edge of your seat. But, are you telling me no one thought of using a sound engineer for an audio book? The narration was at a reasonable volume but the intense shouting scenes were so loud I think I may have hearing loss after this book. A sound engineer would have made all the difference. I may go deaf but this book is worth the pain in my ears. Avoid ear pods if you can.

Excellent book and series. I love this author

Narrator did really well! I was nervous because I really enjoy the narrator for Sam’s series The Gravedigger’s Son and The Waife Girl. But I was pleasantly surprised. This had a nice slow burn pacing, and predictability was certainly on the mind; however, there were enough turns to keep me surprised. I like a good balance of twists along with predictable outcomes, motifs, themes, etc.

A great introduction to a series!

I picked this up during my yearly, end of year buying spree. And finally listened to it. First, Daniel Wisniewski, is a joy and I need more of him in my life. His approach to all of the characters are different and each has a sound base. Second, I honestly can say, no clue what the actual plot of the story was, even by book's end. But after realizing its about six books long, this is a setup book for the rest and pieces of the world were moved, but everything was setup. And third, I love Prince Karek and his different way of seeing the world, and handling various obstacles, physical or mental.

A setup for the rest
