Publisher's summary

Emily Inglethorp has been poisoned. And it seems everyone at Styles Court, from the hired help to family members, had a motive - and the means. But with Detective Hercule Poirot out of retirement and on the case, no one's getting away with murder.

The Mysterious Affair at Styles was not only Agatha Christie's debut; it also introduced her illustrious detective character to the world. Poirot's "little grey cells" would be put to the test in thirty-three more novels, but it was here that Christie and her unflappable Belgian sleuth would set the unimpeachable standard for the modern murder mystery.

a must read for mystery fans

I hadn't read any of the novels featuring Poirot so when I saw this available as a free read to Amazon Prime member I decided I should listen to the story. While I prefer Miss Marple, I enjoyed the mystery. There is just something so timeless about an Agatha Christie novel.

Good Beginning to Christie

This novel had so many twists it really kept you guessing to the end. Great start and introduction to Hercule Poriot. I really like that Christie doesn't put Hercule Poriot as the narrator but rather his friend. It helps put you try and figure out whodunit while getting no inside thoughts from Poriot. As always the narrator was perfect. I love all his narrations and this was no exception.

great mystery - bad accent

Love this story (and all Poirot mysteries!)
This narrator is ok for the most part, but his Belgian accent is pretty bad.

not meant to be heard

This is a great little Christie mystery, however, some clues are visual, notes and codes, etc. They are not described

Enjoyable

I have been watching Poirot on the BBC. I thought it was about time to taken a listen.

James Langton does a marvelous job of narrating. The story is catching and developes the characters.

Disappointing

Over all I found this one to be very dull and not interesting. I Enjoyed murder on the orient express and And Then There Were None by this author but this one was very slow and never captured my interests I actually couldn't wait for it to be done. I would not recommend this 1

Better Poirots

I didn't make it through because I didn't enjoy the narrator. I have read the book and liked the story. The problem was I've listened to other Agatha Christie Audiobooks read by an actual Poirot and a Hasting. They were both excellent. Look for one of those.

I didn’t care for the one man show...

I have been spoiled by the Agatha Christie stories that had actual different actors portraying each role seemingly.
