About this listen

Marking the first appearance of Agatha Christie's character Inspector Battle, The Secret of Chimneys was first published in 1925 and went on to be a hit among readers. This mystery novel follows Anthony Cade, a man who unknowingly finds himself in the middle of an international conspiracy and a murder investigation after accepting a simple delivery job from an old friend. As Cade slowly begins to realize his predicament has potentially put him in danger, he begins his own investigation into the strange series of events just as Inspector Battle of Scotland Yard begins the main, official investigation. As more and more clues begin to pop up - along with even more mysteries - Inspector Battle and Anthony Cade search diligently for the true murderer and uncover the answers to multiple conundrums that plague the characters within the novel.

Hard to keep track

Sadly I had to stop listening to this book within 20 minutes of starting it because you could not figure out at all who is talking during the conversation. Although the narrator had a very nice voice he did not use anything to differentiate the separate characters. Because it's Agatha Christie and I know she has great writing I'm giving it a score of 3

Outstanding find!

Narrator was perfect, and the story itself was full of her characteristic twists and turns to a fabulous, unforeseen ending. But what I liked best are her characters, so immediately known to the reader with a few words and the deftness of the narrator.

No one writes like Agatha Christie!!!

This one had me guessing right up to the final chapters!!! It was a credible and involved plot with a realist cast of characters. There were many insights into the culture of the times. A great listen, we’ll performed!

Give it half an hour and then it's lots of fun listening!

Took me half an hour to warm to the silly tale. Lots of fun listening!

Can’t distinguish which character is speaking

Love Agatha Christie. Don’t love this performance. Speaks too fast and you can’t distinguish characters.

Racial slurs are unacceptable

While the story was good the consistent racial and ethnic slurs throughout was and is unacceptable! You can do better publisher. Why do you think it’s ok to publish something like this? Shame on you to continue promulgating this type of white supremacy and imperialism.
