About this listen

Russian meddling, American fragmentation, and global politics collide in this action-packed, international thriller.

In The Nemesis Manifesto, New York Times best-selling author Eric Van Lustbader, "the master of the smart thriller", delivers an epic and harrowing adventure of the predatory forces that are threatening the very fabric of democracy and kicks off a compelling new series with a singular new hero for our time (Nelson DeMille).

Evan Ryder is a lone wolf, a field agent for a black-ops arm of the DOD, who has survived unspeakable tragedy and dedicated her life to protecting her country. When her fellow agents begin to be systematically eliminated, Evan must unravel the thread that ties them all together...and before her name comes up on the kill list.

The list belongs to a mysterious cabal known only as Nemesis, a hostile entity hell-bent on tearing the United States apart. As Evan tracks them from Washington, DC, to the Caucasus Mountains, from Austria to a fortress in Germany where her own demons reside, she unearths a network of conspirators far more complex than anyone could have imagined. Can Evan uproot them before Nemesis forces bring democracy to its knees?

The Nemesis Manifesto (Evan Ryder #1), my fifteenth read from author Eric Van Lustbader. I received a free review copy of The Kobalt Dossier (Evan Ryder Book 2) and wanted to read this first so I went out bought the Audible audiobook. Originally titled "The Bourne Nemesis" part of the Jason Bourne universe. A well-developed, well-written book that takes off like a jet fighter from an aircraft carrier. The primary characters are well developed. Reminiscent of the best works of Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum. A captivating, page-turning, well-written read. A must-read book! Narrator Lauren Fortgang's narration was perfect for this book! I'm voluntarily leaving a review. Ilook forward to reading more from this author and look forward to The Kobalt Dossier (Evan Ryder Book 2). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

A well-written story from a good author

Full of intrigue, action, and twisting plots. Eric writes them best! A very timely book!

As a staunch James Bond fan, it was interesting and refreshing to listen to this genre based on a female heroine. The story line is done with Mr. Lustbader's expected attention to detail. The actual story-telling is also at a high skill level. The listener is taken on a journey that is both confusing (in a good way) and entertaining.

Worth the Time

I'm midway through, struggling to persevere the unbelievable, almost unbearable, performance of the narrator. Storyline has relevance in today's world; and, the character Evan, has the potential to become interesting enough for a second book - maybe - if a different narrator can salvage and breathe life into her. I am a Van Lustbader fan and can't understand how this book escaped narration quality control.

Narrator Totally Unbelievable

The heroine is great but there is no real depth to the characters and the writing seems somewhat lazy. Using overused similes like "wise as an owl" etc. just seems beneath a writer of his caliber.

Not bad, but certainly not his best work.

listened 23 chapters of pure nonsense. The gave up.
Performance was even worse. She was mostly monotone and even skipped words. I would give this book 1 star, but even the worst story deserves a little credit for the attempt.

This by far the most boring book ever written!!!
