About this listen
A rogue airship captain. An ambitious youth. A clash of powers beyond their imagination.
With scholarships to a prestigious military school, Grayden and Wynn are thirsty for adventure. But the night before they leave, they discover the mysterious Dalmir and his arcane orb in the forsaken tower outside of town. The old man, who seems to have a wealth of knowledge of what came before and yet so little of the now, insists on accompanying them as they travel to the academy.
Meanwhile, all pirate Captain Marik wants is to keep to the skies, take his due, and care for his crew. Then, a straightforward pillaging mission on a ship of fresh academy students leads to betrayal from one of his own, and an unlikely friendship forged by necessity.
Yet, this new alliance stirs up ancient foes and a conflict too terrible to ignore. Despite Grayden’s inexperience and Marik’s skepticism, working together with Dalmir is their only option.
The fate of the world depends on it.
A clean gaslamp fantasy adventure filled with steadfast friendship, brotherhood, twisty politics, and epic airship battles.
The first book in the Turrim Archive series:
The Orb and the Airship
Mantles of Oak and Iron
Hearts of Stone and Steel
The Prisoner and the Pirate

Story
Katarina Ashowan was not made for courtly life. Sure, her father is the famous house witch of Daxaria so she was raised among majestic castles, proper manners, and royal expectations. But Kat is also a mutated witch whose power aligns predominantly with fire. She’s more comfortable riding horses or learning to fight than she is making polite conversation and wearing fancy dresses. Which is why her upcoming assignment—serving her best friend, Alina, the soon-to-be crowned Troivackian queen—is anything but ideal.

Story
In the centuries since rising up against a cruel, twisted dynasty, the Seven Cities have done much to move past their horrid histories, the memories of ancient monarchs who once fed on the life and blood of their own people. Those with a talent for magic are no longer hounded and slain. The lands beyond the Cities are safe, spared the atrocities the Alescuans once wrought upon them. For 300 years, there has been peace. Then Eska de Caraval, head of the prestigious Firenzia Company, finds herself framed for murder.

Can't wait for the next in the series!
I was very reluctant to listen to the last chapter knowing the next one isn't available yet! But I finished listening yesterday.
It's so amazingly written, and perfectly narrated that I could imagine everything as it was being read to me. The characters, the storyline. It had me hooked from the first page, to the last.

Such an intriguing world!
I've been looking forward to reading this since it was announced, and I'm glad I finally got the chance because it was really good! It has an almost classic fantasy feel to the writing that I really enjoyed. And wow, what a well-thought-out world this story is taking place in! I could feel all the years and effort that went into developing it so it feels like a real place. And it's steampunk, which is great because I love steampunk and haven't read nearly enough of it as a genre! And flying ships!!!! In addition to all of this, the characters, Grayden, Wynn, Beren, Marik, Dalmir, and more, are all just so unique, fun, and engaging. I love following them through this story.
Speaking of the story, I won't spoil anything, but I appreciated how it took the time to introduce us to the characters and the world. It wasn't rushed, but it also wasn't slow. It was such a good balance that kept me interested the whole time. The ending was very interesting too and definitely left me excited for the story to continue in the next book!
100% recommended if you're looking for a fun story that can be enjoyed by the whole family.
For the audiobook specifically, the narrator was excellent and did a great job of reading the book in a way that was clear and entertaining, and he was able to do a good variety of voices.
