Publisher's summary

A new novel set in the universe of The Empire's Corps! When Sameena's brother accidentally annoys a religious leader on her home world, her entire family is targeted for elimination. Forced to flee to save her life, Sameena stows away on a trader starship and is eventually welcomed into the crew, embracing their very different culture and making a new life for herself amongst the stars. But the Galactic Empire is starting the final descent into chaos and her new home is on the verge of collapse, while secretive forces are maneuvering to take advantage of the Empire's collapse. If Sameena cannot find a way to keep some small part of civilization intact, the galaxy will crash into a new dark age that will last far longer than a thousand years.

Overall good story... I enjoyed the tie end

What did you like best about The Outcast? What did you like least?

I enjoyed the ending and how it tied back to the other books. What I disliked the most is the author's use of the word, "scowled." It became annoying to see it some many times throughout the book. There are other words which can be used to described how a person reacts to a situation. Also, mentioning the ability to do more had Sameena’s Trade Empire had more time to build up their fleet. I understood it the first 5X it was mentioned...

Would you be willing to try another book from Christopher G. Nuttall? Why or why not?

Yes... Being a Marine... I enjoy the series...

Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?

Patti.

Weaving the galactic sector together!

What do you get when the path of a girl running-away from a barbaric fundamentalist planet collides with space gypsies? This book. Right here.

The Empire's Corps series continues to delight with a story that takes place in a sector of space a small distance from Avalon and the characters we are already familiar with. The characters are rich, with believable happenings in the grander setting of the collapse of the empire, but prior knowledge of the series is not required -- this book stands completely on its own (until the epilogue, which only connects it to the rest of the series in a brief exchange, so no worries if you haven't listened to them).

I recommend this book to everyone (less those who can't stand solid writing and an equally solid performance). I've listened to everything in this series so far, and have all of the planned volumes pre-ordered at least two titles ahead. The Empire's Corps is simply outstanding!

Love the series

Did no think it would be as good as the previous books, this one was exceptional. Do not let the change of tone away from a direct military story put you off. This is worth the purchase.

Best one in the series

The series takes a new direction in this volume, written in a different style, largely from the heroine's point of view. A bit more psychological complexity, a Dune-like would-be empire, and more on the problems of running a free interstellar confederation provide more than the predecessor books - with no slackening of the fighting action.

Great story from another angle

If you could sum up The Outcast in three words, what would they be?

A MUST LISTEN

Any additional comments?

This is a great story set in the same world with good "connectors" to the core of the storyline throughout. I found it to be VERY enjoyable and can't wait for the next book.
