About this listen

From the prolific M. C. Beaton, comes a Regency romance where love flourishes in the most unexpected places.

From the top of his flawlessly groomed head to the waxed tips of his fashionable shoes, Lord Andrew Childe was every inch the perfect gentleman. But Andrew's arrogant composure was almost always shattered by the impertinent Penelope Mortimer, an achingly lovely country beauty who had a clear knack for ruffling his lordship's feathers.

Her nose for trouble seemed to land Lord Andrew in the most awkward situations - and love itself quickly became the most delicate of them all!

Did not make it through the entire book. Narrator was terrible, no inflection to voice or difference between men and women. Story seemed good but could not continue to listen to the narrator drone on in that monotonous tone!

Hard to listen to

the story was very funny and different even though it's still the same formula basically that MC Beaton employs in her Regency Romance books. the characters interactions are different and humorous and handled in a light way. although it is a bit more racy than some other titles it is still sweet and not extensive in detail of sex acts (Thank goodness!) . I do listen to anything by Charlotte Ann Dore at 1.25 minimum and it makes it tolerable. yet I found that the voices she employs for this particular book are actually good and she has a good sense of comedic timing. way to go.!

Finally! A book read by Dore that wasn't terrible

The narrator's scratchy voice was distracting... the story was at times unbelievable for example when she had her head near the lion. I mean come on now.

Story was okay... but...

Based on reviews, I expected this to be good and Quadrille (same author) to be terrible. Wrong! So wrong. This was fun, and I liked it! But I was surprised to find Quadrille was even better. Just keep in mind that reviews can be misleading. Don’t let them bum you out!

Have fun!

Good! But “Quadrille” was better ;)

Why???? Why oh why? I don’t understand. This narrator is usually a sign not to buy but I didn’t even look at who was reading knowing a M. C. Beaton novel would never have such a bad narrator. I was so sadly and outrageously disappointed to find this book to have been ruined by such a disgraceful performance. Couldn’t stand it, am only assuming it was a good book.

Creditworthy? NO!!!!! Read it yourself, I will.

Spare me nightmarish narrators!

This is the first time I have written a review and I'm sorry it's because I disliked the narrators grating voice and poor performance. It was hard to tell one character from another. The men's voices were not well done.
I won't buy any more books with this narrator.

I I don't like the narrator of this book.
