Publisher's summary
The lights dim at the Paris Opera House. The exquisite Christine Daae enraptures the audience with her mellifluous voice. Immediately, Raoul de Chagny falls deeply in love. But the legend of the disfigured opera ghost haunts the performance, and as Raoul begins his pursuit of Christine, he is pulled into the depths of the opera house, and into the depths of human emotions. Soon Raoul discovers that the ghost is real and that he wields a terrifying power over Christine; a power as unimaginable as the ghost's masked face. As Raoul and the ghost vie for Christine's love, a journey begins into the dark recesses of the human heart, where desire, vulnerability, fear, and violence unravel in a tragic confrontation.

Great story and narrator!
A couple of editing mistakes, but great overall! I thoroughly enjoyed the narrator too, even though he was a bit too dramatic at times (especially when it came to the girls' voices at the beginning of the story). Nevertheless, I was by engaged by his passion and narrating skills. The story was exciting and easy to follow, and I always wanted to listen to one more chapter. A great listen!

Webber's is 2.0
I'm nearly always the person who prefers the original book to the movie or show. For over 25 years, Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical has been one of my favorites. So I was excited to experience the audiobook version of the English translation of the original. I definitely prefer Webber's musical version of the story. There are some characteristics of Raul I do not enjoy in the original and the end dragged a bit. Nevertheless, it does expound on MANY items referenced in the musical in a satisfying way!

Amazing
I've always loved this book. I wanted to get one with a good narration. This one was more expensive but had the best one. It was wonderful.

NARRATOR IS GREAT
I started off this book with a different narrator and decided to spend a little more on this audiobook and in my opinion it made for a better experience. I had previously read this classic novel but enjoyed it a bit more as an audiobook. I feel that if you have not yet read this book it’ll be enjoyable whether you read it or listen to it. Especially if you enjoyed the musical. You tend to understand the story just a bit more.

Surprising delight
I’ve seen the movies and the horror part of the Phantom of the Opera, but oh my, the story telling; the mystery; the humor; the rich character of the Persian; and the wonderful narrator with the perfect voice and accents that brought each character—major and minor—to life. I LOVED this story!

If you loved the play, you'll love the original
This is a story told through recollection. It jumps around a bit but tells the whole story from start to finish. I highly reccomend this. It will help enhance your understanding of the story told in the play.

Fantastic!!!
Absolutely fantastic version of this book! The narrator is very good! I was very pleased with his performance. I was lost in the mystery and misery of this novel, and would listen to it again and again!

Mixed impressions about this work
The performance was excellent and compelling which actually helped me to get through to the end. There were episodes in the story that were a little belabored and boring because of some of the detail. I have encountered other adaptations of the story. I will concede that maybe my opinion is clouded and biased. In many ways, the adaptations are better than this original. Maybe my perception of this work will improve over time as I am still thinking this through .....
The bottom line is that this work didn’t “wow” me as I thought it would. So maybe my expectations were a little high.

So glad I finally listened to the original story
I've seen this on Broadway and in movie form, and I'm glad that I finally read the book because it was really good. The story has mystery, some romance, murder, and suspense. I did look up the names of the characters to see visually because the narrator pronounces names in a French way so Richard sounds like Reeshar. There is nothing wrong with it, but for me, it was difficult to follow along with the names until is looked them up.
