About this listen

Bead shop owner Amelia Frothingham has been keeping a secret from everyone she knows.

She pretends to be the ultimate carefree bohemian chick, but the truth is, she's the world's biggest control freak. Much to the delight of her Southern family, Amelia's life appears to be smooth sailing. That is, until bad boy rockstar Huck Wiley mysteriously blows into town like a spring tornado.

Like every other woman under 80 with a pulse, Amelia's intrigued. So when Huck starts showing up in her shop with flirtation in mind, she finds herself getting sucked into the rock god vortex. But her previous attempts at long-distance love have always ended on a sour note, so Amelia has vowed never to repeat the experience.

What Amelia doesn't know is that Huck has a secret of his own, and he has no intention of returning to Los Angeles before he's good and ready.

Will Huck stay in town, scattering the beads Amelia has finally gotten sorted? Or will he head back to his glamorous life and take her last chance at spontaneity and love along with him?

I’ve been really getting into these series that build upon one another; I enjoyed the first two books but this third one emanated with me! As someone with anxiety, it was refreshing to see it addressed as well as to see it in the characters and stories development. It was very identifiable for me.

As someone with anxiety, you nailed it. Love this book and the characters! Love catching up on everyone we’ve already read about earlier too.

Pros: props to Whitney Dineen. She wrote a book, and that is a huge accomplishment. I have never written a book. It’s difficult. This book has characters and a story.
Cons: I hate this book. I have read other books in the series and thought they were bad but free. So, I read this one. It’s absolutely unreadable, like a middle schooler’s fantasy of getting a boyfriend. The main character is deplorable. When she meets the main love interest (a “famous rock star” ugh cringe), she reaches out and PINCHES HIS CHEEK. Like… wtf?! Ok I kept reading thinking, ok that was so bad but maybe the character will develop. No. She’s jealous, whines constantly, is crippled with anxiety and low self-esteem, says things like “girls don’t call boys!” (Barf) and wants the “famous rock star” to fall in love with her and move to backwater back of beyond Missouri. AND HE DOES. IDK wtf is wrong with him but he clearly has some kind of mental health challenges if he thinks she is a candidate for a healthy relationship. The person she most identifies with? His ten year old daughter, who is, quite frankly, infinitely more mature and likable than the repulsive main female character. Don’t buy. I’d return it, but it was free. Sorry, Whitney Dineen. This one sucked. I’m sure you worked hard, so you deserve the truth.

Absolute Cringe

I listened to all the books in this series and 3 out of the 4 were fine. This one however was horrible. I kept asking myself is this really from the same author? No one on her team let her know how bad it was?. I mean the narrators twangy voice was nerve wracking, the story line was boring and the characters were stupid. And honestly unbelievable. I just kept wanting it to end. I ended up speed listening so it would. It was free so thanks for that because if I had to pay for it I would have been upset. I know you can do better. I recommend re-writing it.

Do yourself a favor and skip this one in the series.

I really enjoy two other books in this series and thought I would like this one too, but it took forever to get through because the main character was so whiney and predictable. I stopped thiss book about 20 times and finally got through it. I felt like it was finally getting good at the last 30 mins. But other than that it was not. ery entertaining.

Slow and Predictable
