About this listen

A Washington Post and Amazon Charts bestseller.

“A delightful, light-as-air romance that successfully straddles the line between sweet and smart without ever being silly…The novel is simply captivating from beginning to end.” - Associated Press

Marnie MacGraw wants an ordinary life - a husband, kids, and a minivan in the suburbs. Now that she’s marrying the man of her dreams, she’s sure this is the life she’ll get. Then Marnie meets Blix Holliday, her fiancé’s irascible matchmaking great-aunt who’s dying, and everything changes - just as Blix told her it would.

When her marriage ends after two miserable weeks, Marnie is understandably shocked. She’s even more astonished to find that she’s inherited Blix’s Brooklyn brownstone along with all of Blix’s unfinished “projects”: the heartbroken, oddball friends and neighbors running from happiness. Marnie doesn’t believe she’s anything special, but Blix somehow knew she was the perfect person to follow in her matchmaker footsteps.

And Blix was also right about some things Marnie must learn the hard way: love is hard to recognize, and the ones who push love away often are the ones who need it most.

Exceptional

I downloaded this at 10 pm on a Friday night and finished it on Sunday afternoon. One or the best stories I have read in a long time.

wonderful read, er, listen!

I absolutely loved this book. Blix by far was my favorite character. There were times when I wanted to ring Marnie's neck, but I enjoyed how she developed as a character. And I loved the entire Brooklyn crew, so many great supporting characters rounded out the story. I do feel like the ending was slightly rushed after taking so much time to make everything happen, but that is a minor complaint. Great book overall.

At first exciting but then got boring

I liked author’s voice aka how she wrote this story. However, story it self got sort of very silly and a bit foolish. I liked it until the middle after that meh. Once the main character lost my respect for a certain thing she did, I didn’t like her anymore and the more story went on, the more I realize that mc is sort of an idiot who is 29 but acts like 14 year old. So, basically I didn’t like this book.

Charming and Fun

Outstanding narration and a good story. My takeaway: "Whatever happens, love that." Not a bad thought to be left with!

REALLY Good!

LOVE the ending, the plot twists, and the humor. The two narrators also works well. A heart-warming love story that includes bits of magic, and lots of mayhem!

Well written positive inspiration

This book was so uplifting for me. I enjoyed it so much I couldn’t
Put it down... well it was an audible book. Anyway the narrator was really good. Her character voices were well done.

This story follows the life of one young woman named Marnie (spelling?) and the people who come into and out of her life. I don’t want to give any part of the book away, but i will say that it will leave you feeling good.

I didn’t realize this was a 2018 new release book, and I haven’t read any other books by Maddie Dawson. I am going right over to Amazon to purchase another one of her novels~ I like this author that much.

A good light listen

I really enjoyed the book. I do however agree with a couple of reviews that the 3 love interests, and the timeline was a little too ridiculous but I think it was somewhat needed for the ending.

Blix reminded me so much of some special elders in my life and the reflection of reminding me to actually listen to their stories and advice (of course not always take it.) I did get triggered/ stressed during some of the parts of Blix's family's rude behavior & consistent undermining of her life choices as a grown woman. I think it was very much relatable which means kudos to the author for really putting that perspective out there.

The hardest thing for me in the book is the cluelessness of the main character, I don't really enjoy when women are constantly portrayed as "marriage/ relationship" is the only thing that will make someone whole. But of course this is a romantic light read - but just then man, to man, to man thing to be fulfilled was a little much.

Overall, I really would recommend the book. It had an array of characters that brought so much life to the book and helped move the main character along. I would give it a 3 1/2 stars but since that is not an option I will go with 4.
