About this listen

Single mother Callie has come to rely heavily on her best friend Suzy. But Callie suspects Suzy's life isn't as simple as it seems. It's time she pulled away - going back to work is just the first step towards rediscovering her old confidence. So why does she keep putting off telling Suzy about her new job? And who will care for her rather frail daughter, Rae, while she is gone? Suzy and Callie live close to each other on a typical cramped, anonymous London street. Neighbours seem to move in, and move on, before you have even learned their names. Callie's increased sense of alienation leads her to try to befriend a new resident on her street, Debs. But Debs is anxious, odd. You wouldn't trust her with your child - especially not if you knew anything about her past.

This book was more complex than I originally thought it would be( based on the synopsis).
It was well written and drew me in from the start. Definitely a "wortth listening" to book.

As I’ve said many times, I prefer British audiobooks and for good reason. I’ve been on a Clare Corbett streak again as she shines through with her pitch-perfect vocals. Louise Millar delves into the eccentric minds of neighboring friends and takes us on a rollercoaster ride I’ll not soon forget. From one end to the other, Millar zig-zags, loops and flips as she brings the elements of this tale together with a nice red bow. Satisfying ending guaranteed. Well worth a credit, however, I chose to purchase it for $12+ and am ecstatic that I did. This is my second (“Accidents Happen”) by this accomplished duo; I will be searching for more. So highly recommended. Never a lull or a dull moment. Listen intently as the subplots are complexellent and you don’t want to miss a thing. Grab “The Playdate” now. Adding this to my list of number ones. Very highly recommended. Kudos to Millar and Corbett for bringing us this suspenseful listen.

This was a very good book. The plot was interesting from the beginning. Very Engrossing. The narrator was top notch. I highly recommend. I would classify this as a phsychologial thriller.

Very Good

Wow. I am amazed at this narrator's talent, AMAZED! She tells this story and switches seemlessly between a British an American female accent and does it like a pro! I really don't know if she really is British or American to be honest, she's that good. This is one of those instances where the narrator makes this story and Millar I am sure appreciates that. I'll keep my eye out for Corbett's work in the future, what a talent!

Narrator Clare Corbett is SO TALENTED!

What would have made The Playdate better?

The reader was too hard for my Texas ears to understand. I missed about half of the words.

Has The Playdate turned you off from other books in this genre?

The British accent was too much for me.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I could only pick up about half of her words.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed. When I read about the book, it sounded like a good story. Maybe I should read it, instead of listening.
