About this listen

You're alone. You're vulnerable. And you have something that someone else wants. At any cost.

Claudia Morgan-Brown finally has it all. Pregnant with a much-wanted first baby of her own, she has a happily established family of two small step-sons and a loving husband with a great career. But she is also committed to her full-time job as a social worker, and her husband travels often. So when Claudia hires Zoe to help her around the house in anticipation of the baby’s arrival, it seems like the answer to her prayers. But despite Zoe's glowing recommendations and instant rapport with the children, there's something about her that Claudia cannot trust. Moreover, there has been a series of violent attacks on pregnant women in the area, and Claudia becomes acutely aware of her vulnerability. With her husband out of town for work and her family far away, who will be there to protect her? And why does she feel unsettled about Zoe?

Realizing appearances can be deceiving even in her seemingly perfect world, Claudia digs deeper into Zoe’s blurry past and begins to wonder–how far would someone go to have a child of her own?

Riveting from its very beginning, Until You’re Mine is a multilayered masterwork of twisted, psychological suspense. Listeners of Before I Go to Sleep and Turn of Mind will be enthralled by this multilayered novel, featuring a twisted plot that ends in a breathtaking and shocking finale.

Critic reviews

“A twisted thriller…Hayes plants the seeds of suspense early, and they gestate until a truly spectacular ending bursts forth.”—Entertainment Weekly

"Terror lurks just below the surface in this excellent psychological thriller....The twisty plot builds to a surprising and unnerving finale." —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“Wonderfully creepy…Hayes not only delivers a splendid mystery, she offers insights into the inner lives of today’s women and mothers in particular….Readers will find it hard to put this title down. A well-written, compelling plot, great characters, and a feminist viewpoint all add up to a satisfying read." —Library Journal

Good but scary.

This was a chilling book. Wish there was more difference between Claudia and Zoe's voices.

Six Stars

I’ve found a new favorite author in Samantha Hayes. I binge-listened this novel across two days; I cleaned my entire house just to have an excuse to keep listening. What a logical, detailed, thoroughly complex psychological thriller. Every one of the characters was realistic and captivating, and portrayed brilliantly by Clare Corbett; even the males sounded believable, and I was blown away by the realistic children’s voices. I’ve truly never heard a better narrator (and I listen to a lot of mysteries/psychological thrillers). Everything about this book held my attention down to the very last line.

Finally a book that I couldn’t guess the ending!

I continually read books each month that disappoint me. This one I truly enjoyed page by page!

Ummmm. I was really absobed by this until

I thought about it. Then it dawned on me that the plot is completely ridiculous. This is one where everything was better before The Twist. I've personally got kind of sick of The Twist. If it works, great. In this case, I was happily going along being satisfactorily creeped-out until it all took a turn for the 'HUH?' Then I was just annoyed because it was stupid. If the author was going to do that ( and I am trying not to spoil here) she really had to seed it in better earlier. Oh, and this is also kind of gruesome, if that kind of thing bothers you. And....I don't buy husband and wife police teams. It feels like a gimmick , and one that no real police force would ever allow. Oh , yeah. And, this is set in the UK. The house on the cover is very definitely American. Certainly not on a British city street. Why?

Ok

Story kept my interest but I found it difficult to know which main character was “narrating” as it kept bouncing back and forth. felt tricked by the author at the end. Claire Corbett doesn’t do men’s voices very well; sounds odd.

Eek! If you're pregnant, DO NOT READ!

What a plot twist! This is some crazy stuff here folks. Not for the faint of heart. Hard to make it through, but a well done story, just horrid content. Sheesh.
