About this listen

Perhaps one of the most influential and controversial books in history, Machiavelli’s The Prince raises issues that are still debated centuries after its publication. The theories he developed in The Prince were derived from his observation of the successes and failures of the ruling class. The Prince was designed as a practical guide for newly appointed rulers and is required reading for all persons in a position of authority who strive for grandeur in business and politics.

Peter Batchelor is a fair reader, however, his voice does not allow for a listening at full speed. Joe Mantegna would be an excellent reader.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Altruism may have some genetic root in the human ape but Machiavelli takes us above the jungle floor. He spells out the unwritten laws by which an ape who wants to succeed must think and proceed in the jungle overall. His instruction leaves morality aside, addressing only those practicalities which promote gaining or keeping the upper hand. And avoiding being "liquidated".

The narrator's voice was too deep, made it difficult to understand what he was saying.

The content is good; I read the Kindle version while listening. Well, I tried to anyway. I had to give up on the audio because of an annoying sound running through at least 1/2 of the audio version. In addition, the volume of the narrator's voice was difficult to modulate without it being either too loud to comfortably listen or too low to understand.
