About this listen

This adventure story has everything you could want: a handsome good guy, a pretty heroine, some bad guys, sword fighting, revenge, romance, and of course a happy ending, along with “rodents of unusual size.” Join Westley (the plucky farm boy), Buttercup (the beautiful young maiden), Inigo Montoya (the driven, embittered swordsman), Prince Humperdinck (the scheming villain), and many other strange and unusual characters in this swashbuckling tale of good-natured silliness.

Read by Rob Reiner, who directed the motion picture based on this fairy tale adventure.

Perfection

It’s as good as the movie. The narrator is great. I adore this story. This was a joy to read

Classic

I can listen to books I’ve seen the movies of (in this case countless times). Added bits and small differences that are interesting.

Note for parents: Not 100% kid friendly though. Just slightly less then the movie.

Really enjoyed!

As good as you hope it might be.

The movie was about as true to a book as I've ever seen. The added commentary and humor was delightful. I love the book more than the movie now, which I thought would be... inconceivable.

Such a fun listen!

Enjoyed this story. I can imagine Rob Reiner narrating. It brought back memories of the movie and all the actors who portrayed these characters. So fun!

Just like the movie!

When watching the movie The Princess Bride, I assumed it was full of typical 80s exaggeration and comedic meta story.

It was not. Listening to this audiobook was almost exactly like watching the movie except for the Grandpa and the child. Instead the framing device in the book is that of an author abridging a boring old satire into an exciting romantic adventure by cutting out all the dull bits and just leaving the good parts.

Each framing device works well for its chosen form of media and neither is better than the other.

The Narrator for this book reads dynamically and I can tell he has a great love for the story. The name of the narrator is the same as the director of the movie so that might be it, but I don't know for sure that it's the same guy.

Blast from the past

I read The Princess Bride back when I was in high school. As a fan of the movie, I was curious as to how close it was to the movie. I have to say, it was pretty darn close. Listening was a nice little getaway for a couple hours.

I enjoyed Rob Reiner's narration. He played around with some accents and had enough emoting. My only real complaint is that it didn't seem like he took long enough breaks between some of the scenes. So it was a little jarring the first couple times, but easy enough to look past when you're enjoying the story.

That was a good story ~✨

I really loved the satirical humor and the narrator's bits of monologue here and there.
