About this listen

This adventure story has everything you could want: a handsome good guy, a pretty heroine, some bad guys, sword fighting, revenge, romance, and of course a happy ending, along with “rodents of unusual size.” Join Westley (the plucky farm boy), Buttercup (the beautiful young maiden), Inigo Montoya (the driven, embittered swordsman), Prince Humperdinck (the scheming villain), and many other strange and unusual characters in this swashbuckling tale of good-natured silliness.

Read by Rob Reiner, who directed the motion picture based on this fairy tale adventure.

I wish this was unabridged

This is one of the funniest books. I read it years ago-- and the abridged story is like watching the movie-- still very funny, but so much is missing. The quality of the recording is bad, but the reading was good, and the story is fun.

Great listen but not what was expected

Thought this was going to be the same as the book but it is not.

The Movie Was Better

That’s all I’ve got to say. The movie was fairly true to the book, but in the ways that it differed it actually improved the story.

the narrator is wonderful

This version of the book was given to me by a dear friend when I was young. I don't remember if I saw the movie first or read the book, but I love the story. The narrator is wonderful and made for a good listen. I highly recommend it!

A classic

Buttercup is a girl that lives on a farm and loves bossing around a farm boy named Westley. Shortly after she realizes that she does love him, he went to go get riches. She gets news that he dies and it destroys her. After a few years the prince of the land finds her and convinces her that they need to marry and that it doesn't have to be about love. On a ride that she takes everyday she gets kidnapped and overhears that the kidnappers plan on killing her in order to start a war. A man in black comes to her rescue. After a few turns of events she finds out that this scary man in black is her beloved Westley. Buttercup and Westley try to escape and get caught by the prince, after being killed by the prince its just a simple thing of Westley coming back to life and rescuing Buttercup from the prince to live happy ever after.

I have always loved the movie so why it took me so long to listen/read this book is beyond me. They made this version of the book remind me a lot of the movie. I will read the whole book down the line of course. The whole time I was listening to this book I could see the movie in my head. The dedication Westley has for Buttercup has always brought me joy, and been a dream to have in my own life.

The voice was good for the story. He read it in such a way that he made me feel like he was in the room reading it to me instead of just a recording. He brought the story to life in such a way that it is hard to describe. I'm hoping to find the not abridged version and hear or read that one and see the differences.

Great story, not that good narrator

I love this story. Read the book multiple times and know the movie by heart.
I admire Me. Goldman a lot. Reading books for others is not his speciality.
Great story, nevertheless.

The movie is actually better

One of the few books where the movie is actually better than the book but it’s still the same story.

Classic

I love this story. It is a reminder of the love between the men in the family. Men see things differently.

A+

Absolutely loved it, you can tell Rob Reiner feels passionate for this story. The way he relates the story to times with his dad is what I hope my kids feel someday looking back. This is, was, and always will be our sick day story.
