Publisher's summary

This adventure story has everything you could want: a handsome good guy, a pretty heroine, some bad guys, sword fighting, revenge, romance, and of course a happy ending, along with “rodents of unusual size.” Join Westley (the plucky farm boy), Buttercup (the beautiful young maiden), Inigo Montoya (the driven, embittered swordsman), Prince Humperdinck (the scheming villain), and many other strange and unusual characters in this swashbuckling tale of good-natured silliness.

Read by Rob Reiner, who directed the motion picture based on this fairy tale adventure.

Perfection

It’s as good as the movie. The narrator is great. I adore this story. This was a joy to read

Blast from the past

I read The Princess Bride back when I was in high school. As a fan of the movie, I was curious as to how close it was to the movie. I have to say, it was pretty darn close. Listening was a nice little getaway for a couple hours.

I enjoyed Rob Reiner's narration. He played around with some accents and had enough emoting. My only real complaint is that it didn't seem like he took long enough breaks between some of the scenes. So it was a little jarring the first couple times, but easy enough to look past when you're enjoying the story.

That was a good story ~✨

I really loved the satirical humor and the narrator's bits of monologue here and there.

Highly Enjoyable

I enjoyed listening to the book as much as I enjoy repeated viewings of the movie. Plus, the book has some extra scenes!
Narration was well done. I think the experience is definitely enhanced by the audio.
Highly recommended.

Interesting

Definitely say I liked the movie better. Didn't like Rob Reiner's reading too much; would have preferred better character voices, and the story itself was a little childish and weak.

As Enjoyable as the movie!

Where does The Princess Bride rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of my favorites.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It is a toss up between Wesley and Inigo Montoya, Wesley is just cool, an able hero, smart, cute and funny. Inigo Montoya makes revenge his career goal only to find it does not pay well!

What about Rob Reiner’s performance did you like?

Rob Reiner is one of the best actors, directors, and writers of our day, he has impeccable timing for humor.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It is a funny story and I have been in love with the story since I was a kid. It is also one of my all time favorite movies and I watch it at least once every few months.

Any additional comments?

I would have like a little more explanation of the fire swamp but other wise a great audiobook.

Unsuprising, yet delightful

Would you listen to The Princess Bride again? Why?

Yes. This is a listen with the kids, and since we all know the basic storyline, it's good for when the full crew isn't together. That way, nobody feels left out.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think I likes the narrator, if that counts. Probably because the few surprises where the book deviates from the movie were more editorializings from the narrator.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Rob Reiner delivers exactly what you expect. He's not that broad on (non-yiddish) accents in this performance. It felt a little flat, but his pace was excellent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The very last five minutes. The ending of the book was more interesting than the movie.

Any additional comments?

A great listen for ~9 years old and up.
