Publisher's summary
The professor, the hair stylist, and a wedding date....
Tommy
Help! My sister is getting married, and according to her, I need a date. And a makeover. I’m a busy man, though. I don’t have time to meet eligible bachelors, and the tape holding my glasses together works just fine. Until my hair stylist steps on them.
Yes, Noah, my dazzling dreamboat of a hair guru created a mini disaster, but I don’t mind at all. He’s a sweet, funny, kind jock who—
Screech! No jocks. I have nothing in common with sporty people.
Except…Noah is different.
Noah
I don’t date. However, I’m not opposed to offering fashion advice to a sexy professor in need. A haircut, a quick shopping expedition....
Boom! Mission accomplished.
Not so fast. I’ve misjudged the situation and my attraction to the geek with the tragic sense of style. Sure, Thomas is too smart for me by a long shot, but there’s something about him that makes it easy to forget my past. It might be his quietly commanding nature or his movie-star good looks. Or maybe it’s just him.
All I know is that I’m very tempted to be the professor’s date.
The Professor’s Date is an MM geek/jock romance featuring a nerdy professor, a soccer-playing hair stylist, and a quest for the perfect date!

Hockey is in my blood. I learned to skate before I learned how to ride a bike. I’ve been on a wild ride, playing at the highest level for some of the biggest and best teams in the league. But now it’s over, and I’m not sure what to do with myself. So I'm going home to Elmwood. But I’ll tell you what I’m not gonna do—I’m not going to coach my buddy’s junior hockey league. No chance. I don’t know how to deal with kids, and besides, the other coach—who happens to be my best friend’s brother—hates me. With reason.

Story
When it comes to hockey, I'm all about the game. I've worked for years to be one of the best in the league, and l've done it without splashing my orientation all over the tabloids. My hockey image is one I've carefully cultivated, and after one night with Ezra Palaszczuk, I risk it all. He's cocky, obnoxious, and has an ego bigger than Massachusetts. And okay, maybe he's the sexiest man I've ever known. We'll never get along. Not when we sleep together. Not even when my possessive streak awakens. That doesn't stop us from falling into bed together over and over again.

Conor: It starts with a drunken text pic. The kind I would normally never send. Only, instead of it going to the flirty hotel bartender, it goes to some random stranger who actually responds. Wells: The first thing I notice about Conor Newell when he sits down in my high-rise conference room is how delightfully nervous he is. Then I see his tie. The same geeky tie that’s held hostage on my phone. The one that belongs to my anonymous late-night texter. And it changes everything.

Story
Between running a garage full of beefed-up gear-head mechanics and bailing my idiot brother out of trouble every other week, the last thing I have time for is a relationship. I’ve tried it too many times, and the ridiculous reasons I always find to end it have become a running joke around the garage. But I’ve learned my lesson. No. More. Boyfriends. I don’t care how many times Porter falls asleep drunk in my bed or how cute he looks covered in oil smears while I teach him how to fix up the vintage car he has rusting away in his garage; I’m not going to fall for him.

Tyson Langley thinks the king in Franklin University Kings is in reference to him. Star lacrosse player and God’s gift to the female and male population, there’s nothing the spoiled jock can’t have. It’s impossible for us to be in the same room without talking crap to each other. But I also have a secret…as much as I despise Ty, I want him too. I revel in our banter and in never knowing what he’ll say next. I’ve spent too much time on the wrong side of the law for someone like Ty, though, and if I want to escape my past, he’s a distraction I don’t need.

Story
The job at Sunday Orchard was supposed to be temporary. A chance to gain some work experience, to have some fun. I had not expected to be welcomed into a family of gorgeous and weirdly efficient lumberjack-types, or to find purpose in the tiny Vermont town whose claim to fame seemed to be apple-based products and copious amounts of charm. And I most definitely hadn’t expected to fall for Knox Sunday, my grumpy, burly, fifteen-years-older, reluctant roommate, with his infuriating lectures, his hot-as-fire body, his superior attitude - I’ve never been one to put down roots.

Five years ago, I walked away from Sunbury, Oregon, and left my best friend behind. The move was supposed to get my life on track. I even had a list: Life changing epilepsy surgery. Check. See the world. Check. Get over my straight best friend... Not exactly. No matter where I go or who I meet, I can't let Tanner go. I'm back to tell him how I feel. To get the closure I need once and for all. Only now I'm here and falling for him all over again, it's getting harder to say the words. Because once I have my closure, I'll be gone. And this time it will be for good.

Life doesn’t always pan out as you expect. When it explodes in my face, literally, an old friend offers me a place to heal and a job renovating the kitchen of Burlington’s coolest wine bar. V&V is a chill fest. Living above it should be a blast. But I’m not built to be a social butterfly. Not anymore. I’m a damaged man. And I’m not its target clientele. At least, I think I’m not until I come face-to-face with the most beautiful human I’ve ever seen.

one of my favorites in the series.
One of my favorite books in this series. Each book offers different characters, though usually a nerd and a jock pairing. In this book, the jock isn't extremely sporty. Soccer is Noah's sport, but he also does hair and enjoys wearing makeup. He has great fashion sense and he is perfect for Tommy who tapes his glasses together and has no fashion sense. For however nerdy Tommy is, he is comfortable in his own skin. He doesn't feel self-conscious with his appearance at all, and when it comes to the bedroom, hot damn! He is one of the most sexually confident men this series has had and it was sexy! Noah is an awesome character, too. He shows how you don't have to be one thing or another and that people can be multi-faceted.

Nerds for the win!
Another exciting adventure from Lane Hayes with yet another professor and an amazing storyline with a remarkable performance by Alexander Cendese.
Noah’s backstory was definitely touching and eye opening of the possibility of every homosexual person. But, he grew from his past and became stronger because.
Thomas for the win with tens shy, nerdy persona! His character was brilliant and the epitome of a true science nerd. And when he finally snapped!! So proud of him!
Their chemistry was absolutely beautiful with a connection from the start. Noah and Thomas were just what the other never realized they needed, and fit perfectly together. Hope to read/listen to more about these two!

This series just keeps getting better!
I read the ebook of The Professor’s Date only a few weeks ago but the audiobook, performed by Alexander Cendese, was almost like experiencing the story for the first time. He has done such a good job on this series. The different voices he uses for each character are really perfect. I can’t say enough good things about this audiobook.
Below is an excerpt from my review of the ebook:
I love how this book’s geek/jock trope was different from others. Noah is a hairdresser and he’s a flashy dresser. You’d never guess by looking at him that he’s also a soccer player. There is so much more to Noah than what you see on the surface. He suffered a traumatic event several years ago and it’s still impacting his personal relationships today.
Tommy is pretty much what you might expect of an absent-minded professor… he doesn’t care about looks or clothes and he’s been wearing his broken glasses with tape holding the pieces together because he can’t be bothered to take the time to get them replaced. That’s all well and good until his sister’s upcoming wedding to a man with a very wealthy family. She insists that he clean up his act, dress appropriately, get his glasses fixed and bring a date to the wedding.
I really loved both Tommy and Noah but Noah’s story really got to me. We didn’t find out everything until a ways into the book but once we did it broke my heart a little. Fortunately, Tommy was there to stand with Noah even when Noah didn’t want him to.
These two were just so sweet together and I loved every bit of their story, even the bits that made me a little sad; they just made the HEA that much more special. I’m eagerly awaiting the next one in the series.
A copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author or narrator.

Live this series
Lane Hayes your writing is so outstanding. the details in the storyline keep us coming back and wanting More. The detail you put into each and every character and situation is what makes us listen without stopping. This group of men and the story leading to each happily ever after is what makes this series so good. Alexander Cendese was a great choice of narrator to bring this series to life. his story telling is so wonderful. This entire series will definitely be one I will go back to re-listen to often. Five stars is just NOT enough.

Great story. Great narration.
This was another fun and adorably romantic addition to the Script club series. I don't think I can get tired of listening to the books.
Every so often, I want to defend my fellow science nerds for the way they are portrayed in literature. This series actually does a pretty good job of highlighting our quirks without being offensive. The thing is... most of us won't tape our glasses. We would use super glue or JB weld or ... Well, it depends on the base material, and which field of science you have expertise in. Anyway....
I had fun listening to this story. Sometimes Alexander Cendese uses an overly nasally tone for the professor, but it evens out, and I always enjoy his narration.

Adored Tommy and Noah!!
I seriously adored Tommy and Noah!! Tommy needs a makeover before his sister gets married. Noah is a stylist, but he’s so much more that than. He was once a rising soccer star that was a victim of a hate crime that ended his future career. He gives Tommy a mini makeover. They begin as friend, but both feel that connection. Once again, the author takes down another fantastic journey where two unlikely men find love. They are total opposites but work perfectly. I loved their instant and fantastic chemistry. Alexander Cendese was a fantastic choice for a narrator! He made the story so much more exciting to listen to. Overall, an excellent read that wouldn’t let me go. Highly recommend.

Best of the series
Lane Hayes hit upon a highly effective way of forging an immediate affinity between a main character and the readers – start the book with him being so maligned and harangued by his family that the reader will feel compelled to reach into the book and throttle someone in his defense. This is how Hayes’ latest The Script Club book, The Professor’s Date, begins. As intended, I found myself immediately rising to Tommy’s defense, furious about how his twin sister, of all people, tells him he needs to “fix himself”. 😡 But while my righteous indignation did forge that emotional connection, Hayes doesn’t rest on her laurels. Thomas proves to be the most intriguing and endearing character in this whole series, and it’s not just because Tabitha pissed me off.
Thomas is a brilliant scientist who doesn’t have the time or see the importance of social niceties, sports, hairstyles, fashion, or gossip. Additionally, he doesn’t like sports or understand them, and jocks are not his thing. He’s a college professor of biochemistry and astrophysics while simultaneously pursuing his own Ph.D. in biomolecular astrophysics. Science is his jam, and the world just makes sense to him if he can view it analytically – if he frames it as an equation just waiting for him to solve.
The paramount irony in this story is that Thomas falls in love with a jock-turned-hairdresser, who seems to embody everything Thomas dislikes. Noah is scrumptiously sexy and sweet, all rolled into one irresistible powerhouse package of sports physicality, social butterfly, fashionista sense, and killer sewing and crocheting skills. Yet, Noah calls to Thomas in a way no one has before. It’s inexplicable, but Thomas is determined to figure it out and win Noah over.
The Professor’s Date is my favorite entry in Hayes’ The Script Club series. Thomas, in particular, really resonated with me. Thomas’ social skill challenges and geeky/nerdy quirkiness belie his overt confidence in his professorial element. And despite Thomas’ insecurity about his ability to “people” appropriately, he has a rock-solid, unshakeable sense of himself. He doesn’t apologize for who he is or what he likes, and he also doesn’t doubt his own prowess, even of the sexual variety. I particularly liked that turn of events – not having the “nerd” act like a bumbling fool who’s insecure about himself and his ability to please another man. Thomas is intuitive, kind, refreshingly honest and forthright, and dedicated and fierce in his love and protection of Noah.
Despite their differences, Thomas and Noah have one very strong similarity – their inability to stand up for themselves. Noah brutally experienced this, and it forced him into hiding his true self. Thomas doesn’t like conflict and is “agreeable to a fault”. I don’t think it’s an accident that, until this point, Thomas has been called “Tommy” throughout the previous books and even in the chapter headings here. It’s how his friends and family refer to him as well. However, it’s clear that Tommy prefers to be called Thomas but never communicates it to his friends and family. Noah, however, is the standout because he listens to Thomas and understands what Thomas doesn’t say but really wants – hence, to Noah, Tommy is Thomas, Professor, and sir 😉.
Both Thomas and Noah are impressive people in so many ways, yet they both struggle to tout how great they are, just as they are, to other people. Thomas belatedly realizes that he’s never fought back on issues large and small. He doesn’t know how to fight, but the reality is that he’s never been motivated to do so.
“[I] would’ve slayed a dragon for Noah. I just didn’t know how.”
Noah’s horrible history has conditioned him to stay in the shadows and hide away from harm like a shrinking violet. But Thomas shows him he’s serious, and that even the most inept fighters can win when what’s important is on the line. And Noah is that for Thomas.
Alexander Cendese narrates The Professor’s Date, just as he has the previous The Script Club series books. Here, he subdues his often OTT geek/nerd, nasal-toned voicing. We hear it a bit in the secondary characters, which keeps them consistent with how he’s delivered them in the other books, but not really in his portrayals of Thomas and Noah. However, Cendese leans heavily into his portrayals of the female characters, particularly Thomas’ mother and twin sister Tabby, who sounds rather caricaturish. It, strangely enough, works, though. Tabby is a complete b!tch bridezilla, so her extreme, whiny, entitled demeanor is perfectly captured in Cendese’s portrayal. The same is true for Thomas’ Mom, who comes across as a loving woman who titters about when caught in the cross-hairs of the conflicts between Tabby and Thomas.
Cendese does what he does best on this audio – he’s lively, invested, and wholly immersed in the story. Even as unbelievable as some of the voices are at times, I found them to be funny, and that humor is appropriate for the lines. But what never wavers are his undeniable vocal chops and intuitive understanding of the emotions of a scene, which he translates to the listener through thoughtfully and effectively executed pacing, dynamics and intonations. Thomas and Noah are more complex than they may appear at first blush, and the same can be said for Hayes’ story. But the more I read and listened, the more I understood and became captivated by these two men and their unique relationship. Cendese gets Thomas and Noah right without being too extreme, but he still brings his usual energy and expressive narration to bear here, and it brings this story to life.
Like the other Script Club books, The Professor’s Date is sweet, funny, low-angst, and emotionally fulfilling. You don’t need to listen to the rest of the series to listen to this one, and I highly recommend you grab The Professor’s Date regardless.

Another great Lane Hayes story!
Alexander Cendese does a great job as usual bringing these characters to life!
This is a quick, cute read and the next great read in this series. It could be read as a standalone but there’s no reason not to read the rest of the series 😊!
Tommy is a surprising enigma. He’s shy until you get him in the bedroom. He doesn’t care about appearance even though he’s gorgeous. He’s fiercely loyal unless you cross him. He’s brilliant but insecure and non-confrontational.
Noah is out and proud and hiding behind a façade. He’s still hurting from his past but just wants everyone to see his fabulousness. He’s also a soccer stud (read jock) and hair/style guru. His effervescence is overflowing.
These guys are complete opposites but perfect for each other. They are supportive and sweet. Once they figure out what they’re doing they are amazing together.
I couldn’t tell from the ending if this series is complete but if it’s not I’m in for whatever’s next.

I love this book series! So cute!
This audio book was an exciting addition to author Lane Hayes's Script Club series. I loved the plot and story line of the book, and I enjoyed the narrator, Alexander Cendese, performance.
One of the main characters, Noah, has a heartfelt backstory with a perspective on almost every LGBTQ+ person in the community. Noah is stronger because of his past, which makes him an endearing character.
Thomas was so much fun! His character was clever and a true science nerd.
The chemistry between Noah and Thomas was palpable from the beginning. Noah and Thomas completed each other beautifully. I will read/listen to more books by Lane Hayes.
