The lands of the Northern Council are under siege.
Beset by marauding Gath, encroaching armies, and a mysterious plague, the end draws near. The bordermen of the Iron Shield continue to hold Jayden’s Pass against the might of a new goblin nation, but how will they overcome such insurmountable odds?
The return of the Gorimm has left the members of the ancient race divided. As a consequence of their imprisonment in the Grey, the warriors of the Great Wood have yet to answer humankind’s request for aid against Kaleris and his Fallen mages.
The reunified Drayen army, led by their new queen, race headlong into war upon their own soil. Meanwhile, thousands have rallied under the banner of the rightful heir, Kaimon Rhone, but time is running out. Surrounded by enemies, the Drayen-led alliance enacts a daring plan to lure the Protectorate forces into a final decisive battle. It may be their only hope for survival.
And in the ruins of Caer Lindor, the fate of a broken kingdom will be decided.

I do look for things read by Simon Vance. A great narrator can make or break a story. He's one of my favorites. I will chance a book he's reading if I am not familiar with the author. That's how I found this book.
Whole series was excellent.

1. Develop the battles with some more context. There were so many lost opportunities to provide some detail on the battles. This seemed to be a theme throughout the book but especially prevalent during the battles. It was as if the author didn’t want to provide enough details to actually understand the battles or where some of the armies were at sometimes. The story would switch to another person with an army and I was left wondering where they were or if they had met up with someone else.
2. In the beginning of the book there should have been a short summary of where we were at in the history of the story. It was difficult to wait months or a year and finally get the next book only to wonder uhmmm where was this character at in the story…or did that person die?
Having said that, I think Moss puts together a fantastic story in line with some other really great authors. His character development, plot line and environment were thoughtful and creative. It lacked enough originality to stand out in the crowded genre but you would do well yo take this journey with Gavin and the others!
Very good story
