A Classic Mystery

The Purloined Letter is a classic Poe mystery story. This edition brings some multi-media sound effects to the narration. I enjoyed the story but found the narrator, Kevin Theis, to be annoying. He spoke so fast and high pitched, that with the long run on sentences used by Poe, he was often hard to follow. He seemed like he had to rush through the story. Overall, not my favorite rendition of this classic mystery.

Classic

I received this audio book for free in exchange for my honest review. Since it's a Poe story I won't even bother with talking about the writing. The narration is excellent. If you like Poe, you will love this retelling of his classic story.

A well narrated classic

It’s Edgar Allen Poe. If you don’t have at least one version, your library is lacking. This one is well narrated. Get it and enjoy it. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Great detective story

Written 43 years before Sherlock Holmes “Study in Scarlet” this detective story follows the adventures of C. Auguste Dupin who solves mysteries using abductors reasoning. Poe wrote this before the term of detective became to be used. You can definitely see elements that Doyle would use in Sherlock Holmes.

An intricate tale, with a simple solution.

I was touched how this tale was similar in the "voice" as Sherlock Holmes. It may be those with the art of deduction may all sound the same, when they explain what is obvious to them, but not to us lowly peasants.
Anyway, it was an interesting story, with a touch of light hearted banter thrown in.
