About this listen

A ranger’s duty. The rotten heart of a king. Rebellion spilled from the blood of family.

Rew, the king’s ranger, leads his young companions on a deadly journey to find their father. On a path that twists across the Eastern Territory, they fight toward the prison where Baron Fedgley is held. The party will face bandits, assassins, treacherous noblemen, spellcasters, and Rew’s fellow rangers to get there.

Raif and Cinda, desperate to recover their kidnapped father, will risk anything to find him. Raif, equipped with his family’s enchanted greatsword but forced to acknowledge he’s not as strong or as skilled as he once believed, will charge into a world he’s never experienced. Cinda, awakened to strange and dangerous necromantic magic, will have to control vast power she never expected.

Confronted with the truth of his past and terrible knowledge he cannot ignore, Rew will choose between hiding and saving his soul or sacrificing it all to protect those he’s come to love. Will the ranger’s path take them into the wilderness and safety...or into the heart of the kingdom and an epic confrontation?

The King’s Ranger is a classic fantasy adventure, perfect for fans of Michael J. Sullivan, Brent Weeks, James Islington, and AC Cobble’s Benjamin Ashwood Series.

Pretty good series

Pretty good series. Simon Vance is great as usual as the narrator. Highly recommended series to read. I am eager to read the next book in the series.

A good story, if a bit hard to follow

Fantasy books are about my favorite genre. I enjoy them most when they have three elements:

A well developed and interesting world
Interesting characters
A good story

This book has all three. That said, there are a lot of characters and subplots, so you really have to pay attention when you listen.

I listened to book one about six months before this one. It took me a while to pick up the story line and remember who was who. I ended up rewinding a bit and I really concentrated when listening and I am still not sure I captured it all.

Possibly more importantly, Simon Vance is an amazing narrator. It is worth checking out if just to listen to him.

I will be finishing the series, but likely all in a row, so I can keep track of all the threads.

Nice series

I have enjoyed listening to this series so far and am !looking forward to the next book. The only criticism I have is hearing all the time about the succession without being given much info about it. All the hints about plots and counter plots without any details of those plots gets really irksome. It would be more fun to read about those plots and then see the characters expose and defeat them. I wonder sometimes if the author even knows or has decided what the plots are; or just plays it by ear as he writes. Still the characters are good and their travels and activities are fun to hear about. Just frustrating to have this "mystery" hanging about only known by the MC who refuses, even through the second book, refuses to give any details. Just seems like withholding for the sake of withholding.

I like the series but it needs to pick up the pace

Theses books are well written, but for me personally, they are too much of a slow burn. I really want it to speed up and get to the main story and arc and such. I can feel the potential, and I know there are some big things to be revealed, but after two books, it's still just on the horizon. I want to know what happens, so I will continue it, but c'mon man! Let's throw it into at least second gear by now.

Story leaves me wanting more

this is a story that I had to listen day after day until I was able to finish it because it does hold your attention quite well. the narrator doesn't excellent job I am in love with his gravelly voice. I was a little disappointed that the story did not cover as much scope as I would have liked but it has me wanting more and I will get the next book.

a good second book in the series

I must be getting old but I really don't like a couple of the young characters in the book but maybe the author's just writing from a young person's perspective. it is an interesting plot line with lots of twists and turns and the main character starting to face his destiny and of course Simon Vance does an outstanding job as a narrator
