Publisher's summary

The day Lacey Sturm planned to kill herself was the day her grandmother forced her to go to church, a place Lacey thought was filled with hypocrites, fakers, and simpletons. The screaming match she had with her grandmother was the reason she went to church. What she found there was the reason she is alive today.

With raw vulnerability, this hard-rock princess tells her own story of physical abuse, drug use, suicide attempts, and her ultimate salvation. She asks the hard questions so many young people are asking - Why am I here? Why am I empty? Why should I go on living? - showing us that beyond the temporary highs and the soul-crushing lows, there is a reason they exist and a purpose for their lives. She not only gives listeners a peek down the rocky path that led her to become a vocalist in a popular hardcore band, but she shows them that the same God is guiding their steps today.

Abyss to abounding love

I have been listening to Lacey since I was younger and the music always resonated with me. As I felt like I was diving into the abyss I heard her testimony on YouTube and cried. I want to thank Lacey for being guided by the spirit and serving God. I also ask for prayers that I may be strong in finding my purpose that God has laid out for me too. Note: I would pause the book at specific points and play referenced music such and Nirvana or her own music like ‘I’m so sick’ at relevant moments making an already great book interactive in understanding more deeply through reading lyrics, tonality and passion). On to the next book! God Bless!

Most of the answers you wanted to know about Lacy

Her book answered a lot of questions I had about her and the band Flyleaf
From her humble troubled beginnings to her relationships to co-founding Flyleaf and why she left the band to become a full-time mother/wife.
She makes it clear that she is human and will falter, but her love of God will remain. She lives day by day to keep her demons at bay.

After listening to Lacey's story I feel inspired to keep fighting my fight with depression among other demons. Her focus on God not religion makes me feel like someone understands me. Hopefully, this audio book will help you continue your fight too.

Great listen

This is an incredible biography.............would have been great had the author narrated it in her own great voice, this narrator was very good though.

inspirational and not preachy

I'd recommend this to anyone who looks up to Lacey or is going through a difficult upbringing to show that you can move past it and find something to be passionate about.

Finally Found the Reason

Absolutely beautiful and life changing story. Only objection I have is I wish Lacey read this one aloud too. God loves you. ♥️

great for course correction

I've read this book at least four times and enjoyed the audio version just as much.
Lacey's amazing testimony blows me away each time at least as much as the time before.
When I need course correction from now and then toward the heart of God, Lacey Sturm's The Reason is in my top five books I've never read to help me get there.

Wake up to the realities of suicidal thoughts

First off, the narrator was just ok to me. She got the job done, but I wasn't feeling everything that I thought I should throughout the book.

I love how vulnerable that Lacey got in this book. She was so pure is releasing her deepest thoughts into the world. It is obvious how Jesus made her whole. If she wasn't renewed spiritually, there is no way she could have been so open with her sins and restoration in Christ.

Thank you Lacey.
