About this listen

The first book from the number one New York Times best-selling author of Untamed

The inspiring and hilarious instant New York Times best-seller from the beloved writer, speaker, activist, and founder of Momastery, whose memoir Love Warrior was an Oprah’s Book Club selection.

Glennon Doyle’s hilarious and poignant reflections on our universal (yet often secret) experiences have inspired a social movement by reminding women that they’re not alone. In Carry On, Warrior, she shares her personal story in moving, refreshing, and laugh-out-loud new essays and some of the best-loved material from Momastery.

Her writing invites us to believe in ourselves, to be brave and kind, to let go of the idea of perfection, and to stop making motherhood, marriage, and friendship harder by pretending they’re not hard.

In this one woman’s attempt to love herself and others, listeners will find a wise and witty friend who shows that we can build better lives in our hearts, homes, and communities.

All the feels

I had no idea what to expect with this book and had never heard of the author, but I liked the cover, the title and it received really good reviews, so why not? Glennon's stories are completely relatable, raw, and real, sometimes wrapped up in a sweet package and sometimes leaving you feeling like you've been punched in the gut. Without giving too much away, I almost stopped listening within the first 20 minutes because I didn't really have much in common with her background and the hardships she was describing, but as I listened longer, I found a realness and transparency that would hit anyone right in the heart. Her language is beautiful, but the true beauty of her story is how her mind works and how she expresses her perspective on life, motherhood, and family.

Beautifully written

I admit, I read Love Warrior first. I would probably love this book more if I had read it before Love Warrior.
This book reads like a blog with the stories connected but not requiring any sort of order to navigate through them.

This book triggered me!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am glad that it came into my life via a recommendation from a friend. Although not expressly about relationships, this book triggered me and my views on relationships and the relationship that is possible for me. I laughed and cried. I cried and laughed. I am thankful to you, Glennon, for sharing your story. You are smart and funny and amazing. 10/10. Highly recommend.

One woman's honesty is worth a listen

Would you listen to Carry On, Warrior again? Why?

Yes. Her story, trials, lessons, and wisdom is worth listening to. While I don't agree with 100% of what she says, I still found the overall message to be positive and hopeful.

What does Glennon Melton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved hearing the author read her own writing. However, there were times I wished her performance was a little more polished and a little less halting. It's like someone gave her feedback to slow down and speak...with...intention...and it just comes off unnatural.

Any additional comments?

I saw other reviewers mention the God thing, but it still caught me off guard. I really wish the description mentioned "Christian" since that is apparently a big part of the author's identity and purpose. At times the relentless discussion of faith and God alienated me, but I did like that she mentioned that she equates God to Love when speaking with people of different faiths. I do that already, so it was nice to hear someone of such devout faith make attempts to find common ground with those of different beliefs.

Thought provoking & Inspiring

Great listen and the author does a nice job reading it. Glennon has a unique and encouraging perspective for getting through struggles and managing the day to day. An eye opener for a glimpse into the pain of addiction too. She is like that friend, that leaves you speechless for better or for worse. Worth reading!

Very inspiring

I love Glennon's realness. I recommend this book for any mom who is not your typical PTA mother, any mom who is struggling to get through the day to day activities of life, and any person who has struggled with addiction. This book made me reevaluate my life and what is truly important.
