Brian "Head" Welch
He left KoRn to help himself. He went back to help others. And along the way, he nearly lost everything.
A life-changing spiritual awakening freed Brian "Head" Welch from a stranglehold of drugs and alcohol and prompted him to leave the highly successful nu-metal band KoRn in 2005. What followed was a decade-long trial by fire, from the perils of fathering a teen lost in depression and self-mutilation to the harsh realities of playing solo and surviving the shattering betrayal of a trusted friend. In this intensely inspiring redemption saga, perhaps most inspiring is Brian's radical decision to rejoin KoRn and reconcile with the tribe of people he once considered family in the metal music scene.
Brian returned to his musical roots with a clear head and a devoted heart. Though his story is wild, hilarious, and deeply poignant, the message is simple: God will love you into the freedom of being yourself as long as you keep the relationship going and never, ever quit.

Would you listen to With My Eyes Wide Open again? Why?
Yes. Brian's narration was at once soothing and captivating. His story is so honest and full of heartbreaking as well as uplifting stories. What did you like best about this story?
I loved Brian's honesty. He doesn't come across as a spoiled rockstar, nor does he get too preachy about the religion thing. What does Brian "Head" Welch bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Being the author of the book, his voice - soothing and firm - makes a very positive difference. I loved listening to Brian. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. And I did.Any additional comments?
I'm not religious at all. As an agnostic who is a semi-fan of Korn (really like some of their stuff, don't care for others) I was curious to learn more about what made Brian leave the band back then. I was prepared for a overly preachy book about Jesus stuff, but luckily this is not the case here. I've always had issues with born-again Christians who live a life of drugs and devil-may-care actions, and then feel bad about it and hope spouting bible verses fixes everything. To me, being a true Christian means certain things, and born-again types just don't fit MY definition. That said, if you feel the same, you'll want to put your own feelings aside when listening to this book in order to enjoy it.Captivating Even for Atheist Korn Fans
