Imagine a young ER doctor confronting a patient in the Lonely Pines Hospital emergency room in 1981 Ohio, where both of their lives might be turned upside down and spun in a completely different direction. This riveting medical sci-fi story will have you wondering if you’ve ever experienced a similar bizarre incident, and how time, space, and historical events may be more fluid than we ever thought possible. Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

atmospheric, creepy, mysterious. What did you like best about this story?
I loved the overall gothic feel to the mystery. What about Daniela Acitelli’s performance did you like?
I loved Daniela Acitelli's performance of The Red Lady. I liked her accent, expression and tone of voice which I thought complemented the historical nature of the novel. She does a good job of voicing the characters and I would certainly listen to more books narrated by her.Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The Red Lady is a classic short story that was written almost 100 years ago by Katharine Newline Burt. This book is written in a gothic first-person style with mysterious apparitions, strange events, and even a suspicious death. And its language and dialog is very similar to what a reader might find today in another book in this genre. The story revolves around Janice Gale who is a new housekeeper at a country estate in the Southern United States (I pictured South Carolina while I was listening). After most of the house staff quit after repeatedly seeing ghosts, Janice becomes suspicious of the “ghost” and begins an investigation into the strange happenings around the manor house. It turns out this “ghost” is searching for lost Russian jewels. To complicate matters, Janice falls for one of the houseguests, who believes she has a split personality disorder because the ghost looks just like her!
I listened to the Audible version of this audiobook narrated by Daniela Acitelli who did an admirable job. I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest unbiased review.

Aspects of the plot would not fly today (housekeeper, treatment of laborers), but the basics of plotline and characterization are timeless. Listener is kept in suspense over the reasoning for happenings, as well as determining who are good guys vs bad guys. Denouement is startling and most unexpected!
Ms. Acitelli brings it all to life! She is able to differentiate characters well, and portray their emotions clearly.

Would you try another book from Katharine Newlin Burt and/or Daniela Acitelli?
I'm not in a hurry to read another Newlin Burt novel. The characters ran either hot or cold in a matter of page of narration. Ms. Acitelli did a fair job of narrating this piece. Overall, something wasn't quite right. Perhaps the style of narration did not fit the classic masterpiece mystery style this called for? Ms. Acitelli did keep me listening 'til the very end. Kudos to Ms. Acitelli. The overall accents for the various characters took away from the narration. I could not tell if the servants were southern negro or lower class English. I believe they were supposed to be uneducated, southern negro.
What three words best describe Daniela Acitelli’s voice?

If you could sum up The Red Lady in three words, what would they be?
Ghostly Psychological Thriller. What was one of the most memorable moments of The Red Lady?
When Janice thinks she was locked in her room only to find that Mr. Dabney is able to open it easily. Mr. Dabney proceeds to take her into the child's room and announces that a woman resembling her had scared the child to death. The dead little boy is holding a handful of her hair, and Janice is left wondering if she is mad.Which scene was your favorite?
When Janice rescues a bewildered Mr. Dabney who thinks she is trying to kill him. She figures out what the thieves are doing and thwarts their plan to kill him.Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
At a little over four hours, it was a bit long for one sitting. It took me three sittings. The narrator does an excellent job. Her voice is well matched to this story. She is easy to listen to.Any additional comments?
This is an old book, so there are a few racist and sexist references in it. It is not pervasive, only a few sentences in the first chapters. This book is very clean other than that. It is a well written mystery/psychological thriller. I enjoyed it. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.Eerie Tale in Classic Style.
