A good short story!

A day in the life…. Or so the story goes. We get a nice look at Boaz, Adi and the Why of it all.
It’s the calm before the storm but the boats already rocking. It was nice to see both Boaz and Adi working together. Add in Adi’s sex fein vampire bff and it was a great short story. A good introduction to the chaos of their new journey.

Outstanding Urban Fantasy!

Written by Hailey Edwards
Narrated by Sofia Willingham

Finally, Boaz and Addie’s story! I liked both characters in “The Beginners Guide to Necromancy” series but he didn’t always come across in a good light. In this story he redeems himself and earns some respect. I knew Addie was a strong woman but she finally shines in this story. We also get to find out what a kickass she can be. I loved Kass and Addie’s friendship but I don’t know if I would want Kass as a friend. She’s a bit scary and overly hands.

Overall this was an excellent story from the narrative to the storyline line. It was fast-paced and upbeat. I enjoyed it immensely and highly recommend it to others.

No redemption here

It was nice to learn a little bit about Addie, though she really deserves her own full length story. It would have been even better to see Boaz actually redeem himself, instead of spending a chapter beating himself up over Grier and then moving right on as though she never existed. There was a charming guy occasionally making a bigger gesture, but no real redemption or change. Boaz and Addie still need their own full length book, because despite their mistakes, we do like them and want to see them wind up happy in the end.

3.5 Stars 🌟

I was kind of disappointed with this book. It says that it is supposed to be read between books 2 and 3, but honestly, I think it would be better read AFTER the third book. Why? Well, even though timewise, things are happening in the time between the books, it doesn't really make sense. I spent the first half of the book not really understanding what was going on. I mean, I KNEW what was being said, but the REASONS and the HOW were the things that didn't make sense (Like who the heck was Adelaide and where in the world did she come from?) When you read the third book and get to find out what is happening with the rest of the crew during this time, things begin to fall into place.

Other than that, it never really felt REAL. I can't really explain some of the things that bothered me because that would entail spoilers, and truly, the explanations of the HOW do not occur until almost the end of the third book. See...annoying.....

Regardless, this book was a major step down in my enjoyment of the series. I was already not liking Boaz and this book cemented that. Now, I TRULY despise him. Maybe I'll change my view going forward....who knows?

Another thing - since I'm going about this totally backwards and read the POA series first- I did not understand ANY of the dynamics that were occurring in that series when Hailey's family comes to Atlanta for the coronation. I actually went and found the correct book (it was book 4 in the Potentate of Atlanta series- Proof of Life) where we got to meet everyone. I went back and reread it to see what I had missed before. Not only did I understand a lot more, but it gave me a couple of peeks into what to expect in the future. A spoiler? Yep...pretty much (but I just had to know....)

So, as of now, consider me COMPLETELY Team Linus.
