About this listen

Half-bloods with Thierry's skill set are given two options. They can join the conclave's marshal program, or they can pack their bags. Turn down the job offer, and you've just shredded your residency pass for the mortal realm and booked yourself a one-way ticket to Faerie.

Texas is the only home Thierry has ever known, and she's not going anywhere. Even if it means following in her notorious father's footsteps as a peacekeeper. But pinning on the badge opens her eyes to the fact sometimes fae need protection too, and that sometimes humans are the real monsters.

Contains mature themes.

Great novella, so-so narrator

After treating thru the Gemini series, I really enjoyed getting some of Tieri's backstory. The narrators exaggerated articulation and vocal choices were sometimes distracting.

Just okay......

This is the first book in a new series about a half-blood Thiery who has some pretty unusual powers. She is new to her position as a Marshall which involves policing the supernatural world. Her partner is the romance partner - apparently they've been friends for a really long time and are just now moving things to the next level.

This book focuses on one particular case for most of the book and the 2 partners are thrown into some pretty dangerous situations. Apparently, her father is some big bad dude but she doesn't know him because he left her mother the minute she found out she was pregnant.

The book is okay - but not great. I like Ms. Edwards, quite a lot actually, but this book was just missing .....something. It felt EXTREMELY superficial and I really never got to really like either the male MC or the female MC. It just felt like I was going along with a story with no particular investment in it.

It happens.....

Interesting

I’ve got to admit that I’m not sure what I think about this story. The narrator is new to me and I think she did an ok job. I’ve read one other book by Hailey Edwards and I enjoyed that one more (Heart of Ice). I think I might need to read the next book in this series to understand more of what this is all about.
