About this listen

"To be able to thrive in a field most are terrified of is a source of pride.... To be in the presence of those who have crossed over the great divide is oddly meaningful, in an ultimate sense."

In this sequel to Silent Siren: Memoirs of a Lifesaving Mortician, ride along with mortuary removal technician Matthew Franklin Sias as he cares for the deceased in rural Washington State.

Step into the hidden world of death care and explore the challenge of removing the deceased from the often-difficult, regularly awkward, and sometimes downright bizarre circumstances in which they die, the art and science of embalming, and the intrigue of forensic pathology.

Sias is a veteran death investigator, former funeral director/embalmer intern, and paramedic with 28 years of emergency response experience.

I appreciated the view the author gave into this arena he works in. I found no fat shaming as others did, only an honest accounting of how are bodies must be dealt with after passing. We are given many facts, logistics and also the human side of this challenging occupation. Well done!

Fascinating and Informative

Maybe a bit graphic for some, but as a long term employee in the medical field, I LOVED this book! The narrator gets props for pronouncing the technical words properly, also the author for using them then explaining.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Just absolutely.

Loved it!

Another great book filled with interesting stories. The only thing that kinda bothered me in both books was his description of obese people. I'm aware that caring for them is more difficult, but I felt that comparing the one person to livestock was kinda disrespectful and mean.

Another great book!

Being from the area in which most of the narrative takes place, the familiarity was both refreshing and surprising. A very human look at a rarely seen profession. Well done. The narration was similarly excellent.

Approachable and human

My administration for Medical Examiners and all those who work in Mortuaries has increased as has my knowledge of the field.

Morbidly fascinating and a great achievement to weave humor into the narrative
