About this listen

When Princess Caroline of Drieden of the Royal House Laurent eloped with a race car driver, she forfeited her royal title and her family.

Now a widow and exiled from Drieden, Caroline is working as a journalist, writing exposés under a pen name. When, one day, she catches sight of her sister Thea's ex-fiance, she's stunned - Christian is supposed to be dead. Here could be the scoop of the century.

But Caroline's plans to uncover Christian's deception are foiled by the arrival of Hugh Konnor, her former bodyguard and Caroline's first - unrequited - love. When Hugh stubbornly refuses to leave her side, Caroline can't deny they make a good team.

As they unravel a web of deception that could bring down the House of Laurent, Caroline must decide how far she's willing to go to protect a family she feels deserted her - and whether the man who swore to guard her body can safely hold her heart.

Plot went nowhere

I tried to like this one, but the plot went absolutely nowhere and if there was a climax at all, I certainly missed it even through 8 1/2 hours… I only found this author because I follow Amanda Ronconi and as always her performance was absolutely stellar. It was her first full book that I’ve heard in an overall accent. Sorry, the story just did not do it for me.

Amanda Ronconi

I love anything read by Amanda Ronconi. She makes you forget that you are being read a book and are not actually a part of the story.

Meh

I liked that this had an element of mystery with a romance on the side. But disappointed by the spice level. This was spice level 2, fade to black.

Just ok

This book is the sequel to “The Royal Runaway.” Starting after the attempted kidnap/murder plot of book 1, it shifts to the exiled sister as the new lead. Her character wasn’t believable.

We are expected to believe that after learning her sister was kidnapped and nearly murdered then having the perpetrator of those crimes find her secret hideaway, she has no interest in a security detail and her biggest concern is how annoying the detail is?? I couldn’t get past this. It made the dialogue grating rather than enjoyable to read.
