About this listen

Elizabethan England

Elizabeth Buckley has been in love with Edward Monk for most of her life. Unfortunately, he’s only ever had eyes for her older, prettier sister. Five years after he left the village to make himself worthy of a Buckley, their lives intersect. This time, she’s determined to make him see her and bed her.

All Edward has to do is convince the girl he loves to set aside her betrothed and wed him instead. When her betrothed becomes tangled in a web of lies and murder, it’s up to Edward to untangle him. If only he could keep his mind on the task, and not get distracted by the wrong Buckley girl.

As lies unravel and the Buckleys are brought to the brink of ruin, Edward must make the ultimate sacrifice, or risk losing everything he’s worked so hard for.

loved it

I love this series so far. It has it all; mystery, murder, sex, Lords & Ladies and did I mention sex? Just enough spice+romance to be exciting & not gross. A step above the common 'Cozy' mystery. While there is no paranormal aspect, being a Noble & rich trained assasin is much like a superpower. Think, sexy 18th century Batman with better accents. I wish more relationship based novels would employ couples as narrators. I enjoy The Duke & Duchess very much. It makes for a much better & an even easier listen. Looking forward to Hugh's wedding?

Fun, adult storytelling

Naive young girl falls in love with older “gentleman”. Hijinks ensue. Reputations might be ruined by a kiss. Female narrator is overly dramatic and reads with odd cadence. Everything sounds insufferable and whiny. Male narrator is more listenable.

Formulaic romance
