When a Demonic Assault occurs, most people stuck inside of a Fracture end up hiding inside of a bunker in the hopes that they don’t get killed by a demon.
Others might even hope for the slightest possible chance at signing a contract with a spirit and becoming a Guardian.
So when Scarlet was caught in a Fracture, the last thing she expected was to become a demon herself. Exactly two centuries ago, humanity was struck with their very first Demonic Assault. The skies above the capital of the US, shattering as if made of glass; demons of all kinds appearing out of nowhere; and no way to effectively stop them before the end of the Assault.
On the brink of devastation, some of the humans managed to find themselves offered a contract whilst inside of a Fracture. One bringing a chance at power, fame, and fortune.
Now, long after every nation of the world joined together to form the Terran Republic, Scarlet finds herself stuck trying to find a university from the Republic’s capital that will accept someone from a lower tier city into their midst. But, as if that wasn’t already enough trouble for one person to bear, she somehow ends up stuck in one of the Fractures of a Demonic Assault while visiting her father figure’s company building.
However, she doesn't perish in the darkness and instead awakens her dormant bloodline as a noble demon. A Blood Lycan.
Turns out she had been a demon all along and had been born for the apocalypse.

The one gripe I have is the consitency of the audio. The narrators did a fantastic job with the actual voicing and everything, as always, but the volume varied wildly on this one. Inner monologue and the MC was generally pretty quiet, much like during a movie when the actors are talking and you need to turn it up a bit more to hear them. Then the commercial comes on and suddenly its way too loud and you need to turn it back down. The frustrating part about this is that it happens within the same chapter regularly. This is most noticed during some dialogue scenes and when they announce the chapter title.

The story had a lot of litrpg crunch, sometimes more than I'd prefer, but the main characters progress was very well documented with it, and it give good look into the system the story will use moving forward.
I really enjoyed the narrators. They did a wonderful job bringing the character to life and their tandem work was put together very well.
I definitely recommend the book and I'm really looking forward to the next one!
Fun, action packed story and great world building.

My biggest issue is that the reader needs to drink some WATER or tea to something to stop swallowing so much it’s very distracting. The voices were fine.
I like it

The writing is in need of an editor to tighten up unnecessary repetition.
You will not care about a single character. You aren't even really given a reason to care about the main character or her vague ambitions.
The world itself is nonsensical if you think about its nuances for even ten seconds.
Just about everything the MC does works out for her. Setbacks and failures just ain't a thing in her reality. She's also one of those "I only do pragmatic things for my own benefit" characters who always end up finding excuses to help the people around her. So that's annoying.
I could go on, but you get the idea. As for the performance, it is passable so long as you use audible's speed-up feature. Otherwise the narrators are AGONIZINGLY slow, to the point that even listening at 1.3 speed can sometimes have the male narrator's words come out a little slower than it should be.
So, would I recommend this? Yeah. Just like Mc Donalds is comfort food, this is a comfort listen. Lobotomize yourself a while and listen to some dumb LitRPG fun. There are certainly far worse LitRPGs out there.
It's LitRPG slop, but you already knew that

I loved all of it

This book focuses more on characters, systems and world building over straight storytelling with overarching plot, at the same time it doesn’t feel like we’re missing anything because of the journey the MC is on.
Loved it!! A worthwhile purchase if you like the genre.
