About this listen

When a Demonic Assault occurs, most people stuck inside of a Fracture end up hiding inside of a bunker in the hopes that they don’t get killed by a demon.

Others might even hope for the slightest possible chance at signing a contract with a spirit and becoming a Guardian.

So when Scarlet was caught in a Fracture, the last thing she expected was to become a demon herself. Exactly two centuries ago, humanity was struck with their very first Demonic Assault. The skies above the capital of the US, shattering as if made of glass; demons of all kinds appearing out of nowhere; and no way to effectively stop them before the end of the Assault.

On the brink of devastation, some of the humans managed to find themselves offered a contract whilst inside of a Fracture. One bringing a chance at power, fame, and fortune.

Now, long after every nation of the world joined together to form the Terran Republic, Scarlet finds herself stuck trying to find a university from the Republic’s capital that will accept someone from a lower tier city into their midst. But, as if that wasn’t already enough trouble for one person to bear, she somehow ends up stuck in one of the Fractures of a Demonic Assault while visiting her father figure’s company building.

However, she doesn't perish in the darkness and instead awakens her dormant bloodline as a noble demon. A Blood Lycan.

Turns out she had been a demon all along and had been born for the apocalypse.

This is a great fantasy book and a great first book in a series that I’m looking forward to reading the second book. It’s nice to see an MC it has such character depth. She embraces her flaws, acknowledges them and strives to overcome and become a better person and guardian. I look forward to seeing her character progression over the books in the series.

This is a book you HAVE to check out

This was a very good story from start to finish. The pacing was great, and the world was presented in a way that made you want to learn more about it. The characters are well developed with plenty of space for growth through the story while being flawed in realistic and understandable ways. I'd initially expected the story to have a younger cast based on the cover, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the primary cast to be early university aged young adults.

The story had a lot of litrpg crunch, sometimes more than I'd prefer, but the main characters progress was very well documented with it, and it give good look into the system the story will use moving forward.

I really enjoyed the narrators. They did a wonderful job bringing the character to life and their tandem work was put together very well.

I definitely recommend the book and I'm really looking forward to the next one!

Fun, action packed story and great world building.

Story is fine, pacing is all right, the characters have a couple of moments where they don’t act like people normal just to keep the story moving but you can overlook that.

My biggest issue is that the reader needs to drink some WATER or tea to something to stop swallowing so much it’s very distracting. The voices were fine.

I like it

So this popped up as my suggestions after listening to another book, and I gave it a shot because I liked the sound of the narrator. Oh my gosh this was so fricken good! I already preordered the next one!

Fantastic!!!

I’m honestly certain now that both of these VAs can make any book a hit but this time they were just the cherry on top. I wouldn’t say that this book was perfect but it’s up there. The MC is a believable character that makes you curious on how she will if not for her stats, then arguably more for the way she interacts with the world and becomes better overtime. Likable characters around her and situations that showcase her abilities without making her seem like a nuke on legs.

This book focuses more on characters, systems and world building over straight storytelling with overarching plot, at the same time it doesn’t feel like we’re missing anything because of the journey the MC is on.

Loved it!! A worthwhile purchase if you like the genre.

I am a hard one to catch on for litrpg books. I can't say anything bad on this one. even great audio speakers for the characters.

I need that 2nd book asap

everything is good

So, this is a litRPG. It was probably on Royal Road before it was published, which is why there are so many gosh darn chapters of it. You know it's bad in the same way Mc Donalds is bad. But just like the fact that you're still gonna order two number 9s with a number 9 large, you're probably gonna give this a listen. So where's what you're in for.
The writing is in need of an editor to tighten up unnecessary repetition.
You will not care about a single character. You aren't even really given a reason to care about the main character or her vague ambitions.
The world itself is nonsensical if you think about its nuances for even ten seconds.
Just about everything the MC does works out for her. Setbacks and failures just ain't a thing in her reality. She's also one of those "I only do pragmatic things for my own benefit" characters who always end up finding excuses to help the people around her. So that's annoying.

I could go on, but you get the idea. As for the performance, it is passable so long as you use audible's speed-up feature. Otherwise the narrators are AGONIZINGLY slow, to the point that even listening at 1.3 speed can sometimes have the male narrator's words come out a little slower than it should be.

So, would I recommend this? Yeah. Just like Mc Donalds is comfort food, this is a comfort listen. Lobotomize yourself a while and listen to some dumb LitRPG fun. There are certainly far worse LitRPGs out there.

It's LitRPG slop, but you already knew that
