About this listen

From ancient druid lore, springs the tale of a mysterious, dark warrior, a fiery Pict Princess, and the shadowy secret standing between them. A bow and arrow carrying Pict beauty takes vengeance on a royal target but fails at her attempt to slay the Scot King, Kenneth McAlpin.

To save her life, she is forced to wed the king's cousin, Malcolm. Just as the Scot warrior and the Pict Princess begin to forge a bond, Malcolm must reveal his incredible secret and choose between two worlds, one with Bethoc or one without.

A Supernatural Change of Pace

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes.I'm a huge fan of Scottish romance and this is a nice short story that incorporates the selkie myth into the story.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Develop the characters more.

Any additional comments?

The story is a quick read, but lacks the depth that I normally like to sink my teeth into. But, I recommend this story if you like fantasy, but are looking for something other than a vampire, demon, werewolf or witch story. :)

Excellent story and listen

What did you love best about The Scottish Selkie?

This author was able to weave a story full of folklore, legends, true history, love, pain, and sex in a way that did not interfere with the flow. I enjoyed learning about the folklore and true history as much as living the romance through the absolutely fantastic voice of Dennis Kleinman.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Scottish Selkie?

Bethoc's transformation was my absolute favorite part.

What about Dennis Kleinman’s performance did you like?

Dennis Kleinman has a warm voice, and is able to convincingly act out the different characters, without making the females sound like shrews. His performance, as usual, makes one feel as they are listening to a play, not just someone reading a book. Very well done on the Scottish brogue.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I teared up when Bethoc finally realized she was wrong about the death of her father and betrothed.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the story and loved the narration of this audiobook.

A pleasant dive into the world of Romance
a world I seldom visit.
The narrator voice of Dennis Kleinmann are comfortable with a weak scottish lilt, but still easy to grasp. After a while I sped up the voice a little and followed the sentences better after that.
I liked the protagonists Bethoc and Malcolm. The story is simple, yet unpredictable.
The plot is nice, but the story never grasped my attention.
I found the scenes of battle and daily life scantily described. And the strong emotions of Bethoc has to little tapestry to carry my whole-hearted attention. Malcom are as imortant and as scantily fleshed out.
This novel works out well, but I'd wish it fleshed out the characters and scenes a little more in detail and pespective. I miss some background stories of Bethocs life and family.
Here and there Malappropos intrude: Rooms unused for years, Earls leding the Picts. Small tings that don't touch upon the core of the story, which could have been be and embroided upon and changed to the better.

This is the first time i've tried to listen through a novel. A new experience and I spent some early chapters learning to pay attention to the narrator. I will need to practise my listening skills more.

I received this Audible book through the LibraryThing "Member Giveaway"s program gifted by the author Cornelia Amiri, and wish to share this honest review and hold true to the gifting terms and myself.
