Originally published in 1897, H. G. Wells' The War of the Worlds was the first novel of alien invasion. Wells' most popular book, it inspired several unauthorized sequels, including Orson Welles' 1938 radio play, several movies, a television show, and many comic book and graphic novel adaptations.
