About this listen

Experience the New Testament afresh in Scot McKnight's bold translation.

Typical translations of the New Testament make the biblical text as accessible as possible by using the language of our own day. At times this masks the distance between the New Testament text and modern audiences. Scripture continues to speak to us but it speaks as an ancient text to the modern world.

New Testament scholar Scot McKnight offers a translation of the New Testament with a daring approach to the ancient text. Clever in its expression and at times stunning in its boldness, The Second Testament will challenge listeners to experience God's Word anew.

God blesses the beggars in spirit because theirs is Heavens' Empire. God blesses the grievers because they will be consoled. God blesses the meek because they will inherit the land. God blesses the ones hungering and thirsting for the rightness because they will be satisfied. (Matthew 5:3-6)

Features include the complete text of the New Testament and brief introductions to each book.

Once again … audibles table of contents makes it impossible to navigate to individual chapters. Absolutely frustrating

Terrible table of contents

The formatting of audio Bibles is quite frustrating. The Bible is a collection of various books, each containing chapters and verses. However, The Second Testament presents each book as a single audio file, which complicates things further by including the book's introduction in the same file. This means that if you want to skip the introduction or jump to a specific chapter or verse, you have to manually search for it, often making it difficult to find the right spot. Ideally, there should be separate audio files for each book and chapter. This current format is quite poor.

So Frustrating!

I love how McKnight picked up from John Goldingay the style from the first Testament. For those of us that are familiar with the scriptures and their cadence it is helpful to switch things up a bit. I find that using the same English word to translate any particular Greek word Helps shake up my traditional mental translation.
