About this listen

In the face of personal and global suffering, is it possible to live with hope rather than despair? Join psychiatrist, speaker, and award-winning author Curt Thompson as he shows us how God transforms our grief into a lasting peace that surpasses all understanding.

Suffering is a defining reality of life. Yet so many of us are so focused on avoiding discomfort that we've never learned how to actually suffer. But what if we could move from anxiety to durable hope?

In The Deepest Place, Thompson invites us to explore how the Apostle Paul's experience of love, secure attachment, and the deeply felt sense of God's abiding presence carried him through the challenges he faced--and how it can help us not just survive, but flourish in the presence of suffering.

Combining scripture with his own professional insight, Thompson helps us discover that:

  • Suffering can increase our sense of security rather than our fears
  • Hope is something we form in community
  • Faith can grow out of anger, cynicism, and doubt
  • Perseverance changes our brain and reshapes our imagination
  • Listening to our bodies helps us find new hope in loss

As Thompson reminds us, those who have suffered greatly, including the Apostle Paul, are able to see their stories with a new understanding of God's presence and unfailing love. Let The Deepest Place show you how to do the same.

This book blessed my life and walk with God

I adore Curt’s teachings. I love his brain. I love the gifts God has bestowed on him. What a perfect time in the world to share this with us. I listen regularly to his podcasts with Pepper Sweeney and all of the information he and Pepper share will always leave me wanting more. Say a prayer as the Spirit leads me to bring this neurotheology to my church. Confessional communities are what we all need and how God calls me to bring up my children ❤️

Amazing perspective

I was introduced to Dr Kurt Thomas through his podcast, “Being Known Podcast”. This is his first book I have read- and it truly is beautifully written! Dr Thomas has an amazing gift of understanding scripture and using his knowledge applied to neuroscience. The people and their stories he shares will pull at your heart and likely remind you something of yourself.

He doesn’t promise to give us relief from our pains, he does give… well actually he shows us how we do have HOPE.

That last chapter wowza

The concepts Dr. Curt teaches are biblical, theological, and physiologically freeing. I'm a huge fan of IFS and bringing Jesus to my part to walk in freedom. Throughout the book, the invite us all into a confessional community is a God concept my soul longs to be part of. At a time I went through my own PTSD treatment I asked God to create a group where I could be seen, soothed, secure, and safe. He has kindly met my needs as I can offer others this way of Jesus.
Thank you for this offering to embrace the way of Jesus. Dr. Curt, I enjoy these truths, your story, and my hope in Christ! Bless you brother

Outstanding Integration of Practical Theology and Psychology

Curt Thompson has done amazing work integrating what it means to follow Jesus in practice from a deep understanding of psychology. A must read for those who have grappled with trying to make sense of their pain and suffering. Indeed hope can spring from suffering and Dr. Thompson unlocks some of the Biblical reasons why.

Stays Jesus and Gospel centered

This book is well balanced with Bible, real stories, not woke, empathy, and hope for people with deep trauma. If counselors would walk this process and not go do endless counseling, the person could heal and move forward.

Book is great/Audiobook Narrator is Monotone

I’m reading this book and it is awesome.
Changing my thinking and helping me overcome my own personal sufferings and connecting with God through my own life experiences.

Difficult read but deep and impactful. Just what I need right now.

I bought the audiobook to accompany the kindle version. The narrator has a nice sounding voice but unfortunately, the narrator reads the book with the same tone and pace throughout (at least the first 5 chapters) making it nearly impossible to stay engaged.

Sorry for the tough review just hoping for a new read where the narrator can help, us, the listeners, enjoy the messages throughout the book.
