About this listen

Two young adventurers for hire. Willing to do anything, go anywhere. Pay must be good. No unreasonable offer refused.

Tommy Beresford and Prudence “Tuppence” Cowley are young, in love … and flat broke. Restless for excitement and facing a shortage of job opportunities in postwar London, they decide to embark on a daring business scheme: Young Adventurers Ltd.—“willing to do anything, go anywhere.”

But they get more than they bargained for when their first assignment leads them into a series of increasingly dangerous situations involving international spies, a society beauty, a Russian count, the wreck of the RMS Lusitania, an amnesia patient, an American millionaire, and a fiendishly clever archcriminal known only as “Mr. Brown.”

Dame Agatha Christie’s second novel is the first in a series that spanned her career as a writer, and she has said that the Tommy and Tuppence mysteries were the stories she enjoyed writing the most. With a special, dramatized reading by Gabrielle de Cuir and Paul Boehmer, and featuring Stefan Rudnicki as “Carter,” you will soon see why!

Charming!

My first Tommy and Tuppence story and I found it to be lovely. I love that there were three narrators and so enjoyed the American character. I’ll be back for more.

Delightful Production!

I've always loved Christie, and this audiobook of a Tuppence and Tommy Adventure I found delightful. The story and the characters are top Christie, and the three voices are top notch. (Note: I did not encounter any of the previous mentioned technical issues mentioned in earlier reviews. Maybe they've been fixed.) The sound, the editing and especially the back and forth dialogue scenes with Tommy and Tuppence are pristine. I would recommend it to any Christie fan, or even and YA interested in mysteries. A wonderful production.

Love Agatha Christie's work

The main complaint I have is "chapter 7" (recorded as chapter 5) is not okay. It skips and repeats as well.
Other than that, it's an amusing tale.

A nice change from Marple and Poirot

Very enjoyable listen and, as always with Christie, very clever!! Makes me want to buy other Tuppence and Tommy books.

Faulty audio

About chapter 4, the voice of one important character disappears. Just silence when he's speaking. Everyone else can be heard.

First Agatha Christie.... and I'm Hooked!

Coming from the world of Baker Street, I carried high expectations into this mystery. Doyle never let his readers off with easy cases, never failed to immerse the reader/listener in the period, and always built, brick by brick, a fortress of respect for morality and justice.

In this story, Agatha Christie picks up where Doyle left off - truly! The story is even set right about the time Holmes faded from the page. To the point, this title is marvelous! The pacing is good, the characters are well-fleshed, the scenes are always perfectly painted, and the ending is satisfactory.

Three voices makes for an interesting dynamic for an audiobook, but not a bad dynamic by any means! I raced through this story and will soon find myself devouring another! Truly, the English masters know that, for mystery, the world turns to their country and doffs a knowing cap!

Audio problems

I have to return this title because an entire characters audio just disappears. It looks like there are many recent reviews with a similar complaint. I'm not sure what is happening but Audible needs to fix this before selling this title anymore!

Disappointing performance

I found the narration grating; the performances were over the top for me.
Also, there are weird gaps in the dialogue; a two person conversation would only feature one narrator. The first makes a comment, statement, or whatever, then there is silence for several moments wherein the second narrator should be responding, but dead silent until the first narrator picks up again.
Frustrating and disappointing.

Missing voices

I love the story and the different scores, but there are parts that shouldn’t be in and other parts that are missing. There’s a whole dialogue that’s one sided bc they didn’t add the other persons voice over. There’s also an additional note from the editor and two versions of a sentence.
