About this listen

"The Secret Garden" is a classic of English children's literature. Mary Lennox is a troubled, sickly, and unloved 10-year-old girl born in India to selfish, wealthy British parents. However there is a cholera epidemic in India which kills Mary's parents and all the servants. She is sent to Yorkshire, to live with her reclusive and embittered Uncle Archibald Craven.

At first, Mary is her usual self, sour and rude, disliking her uncle's large house, the people, and, most of all, the vast stretch of moor, which seems scrubby and grey after the winter. With time she comes to enjoy the company of Martha, a good-natured maid, Ben Weatherstaff the gardener, and a friendly Robin who soon becomes a very close friend. Her appetite increases and she grows stronger as she plays by herself on the moor. She starts to search for the Secret Garden she heard about in a story.©2016 Audioliterature (P)2016 Audioliterature

This is the best version

Any additional comments?

This version has the best narrator. It's just the right ambience for this kind of story.

The story isn't dramatic. Nothing deep. What's special is the story's presence, it's virtue is this, your listening and before you realize it's like your just at ease relaxed. If I want to wake up I'll go to Les miserables if I want to turn off I'll go to the secret garden.

Just keep this in mind and I beleive you'll love it, especially this narration.

(small comment she does go fast I guess that's why it's 6 hrs unabridged not 8)

Love the reading performance by Helen StaIner

Helens reading of this book with her true to life Yorkshire accent makes all the difference in the world.

This wonderful coming of age story highlights the beauty and magic of God’s created world and that he is still creating.
